Echuca Tips August 30

Border Inn Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Echuca Roughie - Race 3 No. 14 Rock The Vendi

There was enough to like about Rock The Vendi's debut at Geelong late last month after she had produced her best jump-out effort when winning over 950m at Traralgon in July.

The filly showed speed before fading to finish fifth over 1100m, beaten just over four-and-a-half lengths in a race where she was forced to race wide without cover.

That outing should have brought her on significantly and the daughter of Levendi is not expected to have any issues with another testing surface.

Barrier five is a positive and the rise in distance also looks suitable after the way she shaped on debut.

Freshened since that first race-day appearance, Rock The Vendi may be capable of surprising some better-fancied rivals with Jye McNeil aboard.

Bourke Builders Maiden Plate Tips (Race 4)

Echuca Value Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Churchill Lane

Heavy-track form is already on the board with Churchill Lane, who produced his best career finish when third at Moe last time.

The gelding raced close to the speed over 1600m before fading late, but still stuck on well enough to be beaten seven-and-a-half lengths after starting at big odds.

That was a clear improvement on his previous run at Bairnsdale nine days earlier and gives him something to build on here.

Jason Warren's galloper again draws well enough to take up a forward position, while the inside alley should help him get an economical run in testing ground.

Connections scratched Churchill Lane from Bendigo on Wednesday to come here instead and, at his first look around Echuca, he rates as value to break through.

Carlton Draught BM56 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Echuca Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Midnight Glow

Midnight Glow has performed with credit in both starts this preparation, including a fifth on the Sandown Hillside circuit late last month.

The seven-year-old was held up at a crucial stage in that Benchmark 74 and was beaten just over four lengths, with the runner-up subsequently boosting the form by winning at Caulfield.

A drop back to Benchmark 56 company and a return to country level both look significant positives, while the gelding has already shown he can handle Heavy ground.

Freshened since that Sandown run, the shorter trip should not pose any issue and Craig Newitt knows him well.

The wide draw is not a major concern given he is often ridden with restraint, and John Salanitri's gelding looks well placed to record his first win since Warrnambool in April last year.

Echuca Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 5 She’s A Jett

She’s A Jett broke through for her maiden win over 1400m at Warrnambool in March, scoring second-up on a wet track.

The four-year-old then backed that up with a solid runner-up finish over the same distance at Seymour when facing winners for the first time.

Both races have since produced subsequent winners, giving those efforts some depth on paper.

She has shown tactical versatility in the past and should be forward enough for her return after two jump-out appearances.

The mare has already performed well at this BM56 level and, while Heavy 9 conditions present a stronger test, she looks capable of resuming with a win.
