Sydney racing shifts to Rosehill on Saturday, August 29, with a 10-race card headlined by two Group 3 features, the Up And Coming Stakes and San Domenico Stakes.

Upgrades are expected from the current Soft 6 rating, with the rail out three metres for the entire circuit.

Rosehill Tips August 29

Merrylands RSL Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Rosehill Favourite - Race 3 No. 3 Aethelwulf

It will be interesting to see what the market does late with Aethelwulf, an exciting and lightly raced middle-distance prospect from the Matthew Smith stable who has won three of four starts this preparation.

The latest two have been dominant, including a six-and-a-half-length romp at Kembla Grange before producing an impressive metropolitan debut victory at Canterbury, while the tick-over trial that followed was also encouraging.

This BM78 is no gimme, however, with threats including Anthracite, who was excellent first-up, had little luck second-up and worked during the race when third behind the smart King Of The Sea last Saturday, while Appeared arrives off a tough Australian debut victory.

Although his manners were also against him in the second-up defeat, he also did not let down as strongly on a Heavy 8 surface.

His last two wins have come on Good ground, so likely upgrades from the current Soft 6 will suit, and Zac Lloyd stays aboard, with the young hoop in excellent touch since returning from a short overseas stint.

Mounties Group Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 4 No. 2 Glasgow Lass

The only previous time Glasgow Lass reached third-up in a preparation resulted in a Listed victory when trained in Western Australia by Mitchell Pateman, defeating four-time Stakes winner Machine Gun Gracie.

She subsequently joined the Matt Laurie stable after failing in March last year and spent the best part of 14 months away from the races before returning at Caulfield on May 9, where she did not handle a Soft 7 and was again given time.

Both winter runs this campaign have been more encouraging, beginning with a closing third over 1200m at Caulfield on July 25 before she hit a flat spot over 1400m last time and picked up again late, working strongly through and beyond the line.

The main query is the map from the wide draw, although she has shown enough tactical versatility in the past to offset that concern and a big price is available for the risk.

Glasgow Lass heads north for a BM78 against her own sex and, with Sienna Grima's 2kg claim providing some relief at the weights, she could surprise in a race lacking depth.

Bankstown Sports Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Mr Miller

The relatively quick turnaround is a minor query with Mr Miller after resuming at Warwick Farm on August 19, although he was hardly asked to exert himself when recording a very soft first-up victory.

Chris Waller's lightly raced gelding had already shown promise during his first campaign, following a debut win with two unlucky runner-up finishes in races that have produced some useful form.

This BM78 looks an ideal opportunity to continue building his rating early in the season, particularly as he is the least exposed runner in a field where many rivals have found their ceilings.

Barrier placement gives him every chance under Tommy Berry, who has ridden 32 winners for the Waller stable over the past 12 months.

Cuban Cigar looks the saver and/or exotic inclusion, having won at Kembla Grange in March, covered ground in a brave first-up Wyong victory and then endured little luck when narrowly beaten in a Rosehill Midway behind the fit and in-form Attractiveness.

Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Stakes Tips (Race 7)

Rosehill Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 10 Genesis Runner

The Up And Coming Stakes has produced some high-class winners in recent seasons, including Tom Kitten and Autumn Glow, while Group 1 winner Divine Prophet is also among the notable names on the honour roll over the past decade.

Much of the attention on Saturday will naturally fall on the sprinters in the San Domenico Stakes that follows, but this Group 3 has the potential to provide some important spring form of its own.

Savagram and Genesis Runner are two of the lightly weighted contenders, with Savagram an impressive debut winner at Canterbury on August 12, although the only runner to have emerged from that race so far was runner-up Cantero, who disappointed at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Genesis Runner was still green during a two-start first preparation in June but showed raw ability, improving from a debut fourth to win over 1300m at Newcastle despite doing plenty wrong.

The colt has completed two August trials ahead of his return and looked particularly sharp in the latest, winning comfortably over 1030m in fast time on August 21, suggesting he has been set to make an impact first-up.

ClubsNSW Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 10 No. 7 Lisztomania

Country galloper Lisztomania landed the cash for us at a big price when resuming at Eagle Farm on June 27 before heading to Grafton for the Listed Ramornie Handicap.

The Todd Payne-trained gelding had no luck in that July 17 feature, spending much of the straight held up in what can be treated as a complete forgive run.

He has always given the impression that 1400m would stretch him and that was evident when third-up on July 25, with the rider also reporting post-race that the distance proved too far.

A short freshen-up and drop back in trip look ideal, while experienced rider Kerrin McEvoy should suit a horse who is at his best when saved for one late run, with the middle draw another positive.

Firmer ground is preferable, so any track upgrades will help, and while his racing pattern means he often needs luck, Lisztomania can be dangerous when circumstances fall his way and is worth including at a big price in the finale.
