Saturday's meeting carries genuine depth across the support races, and several leading stables look to have targeted this card with horses ready to build on recent momentum. It shapes as a competitive program overall, with plenty of angles for punters across the afternoon.

Caulfield Tips November 15

Race 1 - 12:20PM Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics Handicap Tips (1100m)

A really tricky opener, and a very competitive early betting market backs that up.

7. Interest Point is aiming for back-to-back wins and has improved with every run this campaign after resuming as a gelding following a three-year-old season where he didn’t progress.

While it was easier company, his Ballarat performance last start was dominant, and connections have opted for this BM74 after bypassing a few stronger events he had accepted for last week, with a low draw, fitness and a 2kg claim all in his favour.

13. Legacy Bay has been very honest, and while her best winning form last prep came over further, she is a fresh winner at this trip, and her late-October Pakenham jump-out looked particularly sharp. She can chime in late if the tempo is strong.

Respecting 12. Hot Statement from the Richards–Chantelle Jolly stable given their strong record when travelling horses from Adelaide, and 8. Just Like Gaby stays in the mix with her Sandown fresh form despite being a touch plain at Caulfield second-up.

Selections: 7, 13, 12, 8.

Race 2 - 12:50PM Move To Strike at Lovatsville Handicap Tips (2400m)

There still could be some upside with 1. Black Run, and as we often see with these European imports, they can furnish more in their second Australian campaigns.

He was mostly competitive throughout his first Australian prep, and his fighting qualities have been evident this time in, including a second-place finish at Newcastle when finding a second wind before winning a tight duel versus Glad You Think So at Randwick on November 1, with that pair clearing out from the rest.

The 2400m trip is still unknown, but the rise in distance appears suitable based on what he has shown of late, and this does look another very winnable race.

9. Almairac can mix his form, although he now has a solid fitness base with four runs completed this season, including a 2400m attempt here last time out in a slightly stronger affair, and he does need luck.

Of those at longer odds, 3. Lodbrock could surprise third up with merit to both runs this time in but could be searching for further again, while 4. Rich Champagne was ticking over beautifully before a Horsham Cup failure that may be worth forgiving.

Selections: 1, 9, 3, 4.

Race 3 - 1:25PM Sharp EIT Solutions Handicap Tips (1700m)

I’m happy to back in 9. Skippers Canyon, who could be the best horse going forward from this event, and Philip Stokes has a knack for taking these OTI recruits quickly through the lower grades, which was evident last season with Deakin.

This gelding impressed with an Australian debut victory over 1400m before a runner-up finish in a strong form race here on August 16.

Both Pakenham jump-outs should have him spot on for this 1700m resumption, and with further progression, he looks the horse to follow out of this event and can get the job done fresh.

11. Sigiriya Rock had all favours at Geelong for an impressive October 23 victory, although he was only second-up there, and the Criswell-trained galloper has always shown some talent despite needing to overcome a wide draw this time around.

6. Cavity Bay could be your value as she tends to run the same race regardless of assignment, often whacking away without being a reliable winning proposition, while 1. Nation's Call is a touch tricky to gauge backing up from a very wet track last Saturday but did win a stronger benchmark two starts back and could find the front.

Selections: 9, 11, 6, 1.

Race 4 - 2:00PM Sportsbet Village Stakes Tips (1100m)

7. Extremely Lucky never delivered on the early hype after being switched to Chris Waller a couple of years back, having once been touted as a potential Everest contender in the 2023 spring.

He has been back under the care of Will Clarken for roughly 18 months now, and first-up at 1100m has generally been the right recipe with three wins and two seconds from six fresh attempts, especially on firmer ground.

He moved well in a recent Morphettville trial, and while a little speculative now as an older horse coming off a short and failed winter prep, he could still put a field like this away without surprising.

6. Beast Mode has been a different animal since the blinkers went on, producing two all-the-way Moonee Valley wins at his latest runs, and he is likely to find the front again although bringing that short-course Valley form to another circuit can be tricky.

4. Hedged brings arguably the best recent form and is ticking over well in his first campaign for Gavin Bedggood, who has a knack for improving these tried gallopers, while 2. Sghirripa is hard to have on recent touch but the best version of him would see him in the mix, and his second-up stats are sound.

Selections: 7, 6, 4, 2.

Race 5 - 2:35PM Tile Importer Summoned Stakes Tips (1600m)

It’s hard to be confident in the race, and 10. Miss Playlounge is the outsider of the field — deserved on raw ratings for a set weights and penalties affair — but I do respect this aggressive placement in the search for black type.

The penny-drop moment may have come second up at Cranbourne where we were on at a good price, and they’ve chosen this instead of an easier Pakenham option on Friday night. The rise to 1600m suits the Clinton McDonald-trained mare, who again has Beau Mertens aboard for the Summoned Stakes.

It’s still something of a shot at the stumps, but she has always shown talent and it’s hard to be confident with the more fancied opposition.

3. Roll On High clearly has the ability to put this race away, although she can be tricky to catch. We gave her a sniff at long odds on Melbourne Cup Day when she flashed home for second, but she has a habit of producing a run like that and then not progressing as expected.

9. Blindedbythelight is an interesting acceptor coming back to 1600m if they proceed after the heavy conditions last Saturday; she won here three starts ago before rising in grade and remains lightly raced, while 4. Precious Charm won first up. It’s harder here, but the timing looks right.

Selections: 10, 3, 9, 4.

Race 6 - 3:10PM Sportsbet How Now Stakes Tips (1200m)

8. Vestas gets a chance for a much-deserved stakes victory third up on Saturday, with Clinton McDonald having this mare absolutely flying following strong lead-up work before resuming in the Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes on Caulfield Guineas Day, where she rattled home with the fastest last 400m of the meeting.

She again found the line second up at Moonee Valley in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes, and I like that they opted against a competitive sprint at Flemington on Champions Day where the wet track might have also been against her.

Ben Melham will also be eager to turn the recent showings into a victory, and he owes her a good steer.

9. Soft Love had excuses when crowded for room second-up at Flemington, and I don’t mind her back to Caulfield where she ran a huge race first up producing her customary late dash. She was also a track-and-trip winner here in April before being freshened.

3. Pop Award doesn’t appear to run out a strong 1400m, and the drop back to 1200m on the fresher side looks the right recipe after a tick-over trial since her October 4 run, while 2. Aviatress arrives on the fresh side and her career highlight did come over this track-and-trip last spring.

Selections: 8, 9, 3, 2.

Race 7 - 3:45PM Sportsbet Sandown Guineas Tips (1600m)

12. Sheza Alibi continues to firm and it’s no surprise given the level she has reached this preparation, with each run this spring showing another layer of progression.

She performed well on stable debut for Moody & Coleman when backed in the market for the Listed Gothic Stakes, a hot-form race won by Tentyris who then went on to claim the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Off that she looked a good thing in the Group 3 Vanity Stakes on Derby Day where she duly delivered despite encountering trouble, and the rise to 1600m shouldn’t present any issues given how strongly she closed off at 1400m.

1. Call Da Vinci could be worth another chance after a plain Carbine Club Stakes run that followed a decent Victorian debut, and he brings solid two-year-old reference lines from Brisbane, while stripping fitter with that mile effort behind him.

11. Top Reward rises in grade after an impressive all-the-way Mornington debut win; obviously much harder here, but we don’t know his ceiling and he was heavily backed at his first appearance. 4. Kaleo made late inroads at Flemington over 1400m and looks suited getting to 1600m now third up, and blinkers improved him last time.

Selections: 12, 1, 11, 4.

Race 8 - 4:25PM Sportsbet C.F. Orr Stakes Tips (1400m)

5. Angel Capital looks ready to peak now fourth up and gets his preferred return to 1400m, having been the strongest closer in The Everest where he produced the fastest final 200m of the program. He wasn’t suited dropping back to 1200m on that occasion, but his late work confirmed he is trending the right way and building into the prep smoothly.

With the setup, distance and timing now falling into place, Angel Capital could be the one peaking and claiming a first Group 1 win, which connections would be desperate for.

1. Jimmysstar is the obvious danger and a deserving favourite after sticking on bravely in The Everest before atoning in the Russell Balding Stakes a fortnight later. He continues to race like a genuine weight-for-age operator, and the smaller field plays to his strengths, particularly if he can find room when he needs it.

7. Vinrock looks the most capable of the double-figure runners and could give cheek up front with 53kg. Blinkers go on, and he has won a tick-over trial since an even effort in the Caulfield Guineas. His racing pattern gives him every chance to hold on for a placing.

3. Bosustow is honest and rarely runs a poor race, but the top pair look a class above at this stage of his development. A top three or four finish wouldn’t shock, though he will need a new peak to threaten Angel Capital and Jimmysstar.

Selections: 5, 1, 7, 3.

Race 9 - 5:05PM Move To Strike Thoroughbred Club Stakes Tips (1200m)

1. My Gladiola brings easily the best last-start reference through the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes where she was the runner-up behind the very smart Tentyris, and that form reads strongly dropping back to a set weights and penalties race against fillies.

She had been racing consistently prior to that with a Group 2 Danehill Stakes placing following a Flemington win on September 13, and while it isn’t always easy to hold form deep into a campaign as an early three-year-old, that looks the only real query.

2. Inkaruna comes through the Red Roses on VRC Oaks Day where she ran into the very smart Point Barrow but held a safe margin on the rest, and she made late ground behind My Gladiola when resuming at Flemington in September which ties in well.

9. Teine Aulelei ran into Sheza Alibi in the Vanity and was no match for that smart filly, and she was luckless a week earlier at Moonee Valley; she has always hinted at wanting further, though a strong 1200m tempo could still bring her into the race.

8. Surf’s Up broke through second up in Sydney before finishing a close-up second to Point Barrow at Caulfield on October 11, and she’s another to come through the Red Roses where not a lot went right.

Selections: 1, 2, 9, 8.

Race 10 - 5:40PM R.M.Williams Handicap Tips (1400m)

A deep Benchmark 84 closes the program and there are plenty of chances. One at longer odds is 14. Somewhere, who looked a potential star 12 months ago after an outstanding debut victory over this trip at Ballarat before a third placing in the Sandown Guineas, which he would’ve won with even luck.

He didn’t come up in three autumn runs but has been given time, and his two jump outs leading into this resumption have both been sound. There is a query off last preparation, but he does have talent and a generous price is available.

7. Taken put together four straight wins before a spell, and the Cranbourne jump out on October 20 suggested he has ticked over well enough. It is a deeper race now graduating from three-year-old grade, but he is very genuine and still has upside.

13. Spione heads the market with the rise to 1400m expected to suit second up, and the form from his Geelong run has since been franked through the fourth-placed Persian Spirit, who bolted in with the last at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

Another to come through that Geelong race is 11. Roadcone, who wasn’t suited on a Soft 7 surface there but still performed fairly, and he was a comfortable Pakenham winner via his last 1400m outing.

Selections: 14, 7, 13, 11.
