While he didn't progress in three autumn appearances, there were no bad runs among those and 66+ is a touch easier than two of the events he contested in that period.
With even luck from barrier one, he’s found a very suitable race to kick off his prep and the small field should help him hold a forward position.
Each-way odds are available in what looks a very suitable race for Charino.
Hosemasters - Colonel Reeves Stakes Tips (Race 6)
Ascot Favourite - Race 6 No. 1 Jokers Grin
On a Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes path is Jokers Grin, who opened his spring with victory in the Prince Of Wales Stakes, where he did enough over 1000m and still has improvement to come.
Western Australia’s premier sprinter is aided by the extra 100m of this Group 3 dash, which suits him better at this stage of the prep.
His main threat is Oscar's Fortune, who was runner-up behind Jokers Grin a fortnight ago, although the second favourite appeared to have every chance off a soft run in transit.
He does have a 2kg weight swing on the market elect, but Jokers Grin still sets the benchmark.
Quayclean - W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes Tips (Race 8)
Ascot Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Moonwalk
William Pike is aiming for a seventh win in the W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes and he's combined with the Williams yard in his last five victories in this race, with the dominant jockey/trainer combination teaming for the last two winners in Keshi Boom and Storyville.
Their hat-trick bid is with Moonwalk, who did make late inroads in the Burgess Queen lead-up and 1600m shouldn’t trouble her off what she has shown this time in.
To turn the tables on more fancied rivals from that race, “The Wizard” will need to make use of the low draw.
If Pike can land her close enough, she is capable of finishing in the money at a double figure quote.
Tabtouch - Placid Ark Stakes Tips (Race 9)
Ascot Best Bet - Race 9 No. 11 Luana Miss
It’s hard to go away from the favourite, who was a stylish winner of the Placid Ark Prelude on November 1 and brings the strongest reference heading into the feature.
The second market elect is Snitzalette, who was brave in second when just grabbed by the very smart King Of Light last start, although that form still ties in well.
Luana Miss overcame trouble when runner-up in the Max Simmonds Stakes, where she beat home Snitzalette and with even luck it would’ve been a longer margin.
The Trevor Andrews-trained filly came on from that resumption via the aforementioned November 1 performance and, while short, she is clearly the one to beat.
