Perhaps unsettled by the pressure of playing in his home tournament, Sinner has only been past the R16 once at the Rome Masters, with his best result a quarter-final finish in 2022. Of course, Sinner is a different beast today and the Italian will be hoping for an immediate return to the champions corner after getting back on court this tournament following his three-month suspension.

Sinner got the job done in straight sets in his first match since the Australian Open against a tough opponent in Mariano Navone and he's received a favourable draw here in the third round. Can't really dive too deep into current form with Sinner as he's only played one match since successfully defending his Australian Open title in January with a dominant victory over Alexander Zverev in the final.

However, Sinner has been the undisputed best and most consistent player in the world for over a year - in fact, he's won 100 of his last 108 matches dating back to October 2023.

Sinner is also a perfect 8-0 for 2025 (22-0 since October 2024) and is currently on a 29-match winning streak against players ranked outside the top 50.

With the 'Big 3' era over, Sinner has been the player to step up and control the tour - and it remains to be seen if the likes of Alcaraz and others have the consistency to hang with him. Sinner was a 6-3 6-4 winner over Mariano Navone in his comeback match in Rome.

De Jong actually has a positive 5-3 record at tour-level this season, demonstrating he has the ability to compete at this level, but the Dutchman has opted to play at the Challenger Level in order to build his ranking into the top 100 - which he's successfully achieved, coming into Rome at No. 93 in the world.

The 24-year-old wasn't in great form over the last few weeks, going out in the first round of Madrid qualifying and the second round of the Estoril Challenger.

After falling to Thiago Seyboth Wild in the final round of Rome qualifying, it was looking like another disappointing week.

However, de Jong gained entry into the main draw as a lucky loser and has been playing with house money, defeating Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets before crushing the in-form Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-0 6-2 to reach the third round.
