The Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) traditionally brings many of Australia’s leading gallopers back to the races, with its recent honour roll underlining the quality required to win the first Group 1 of the season.

What Happened Next?

Since 2016, winners have included Winx, Verry Elleegant, Anamoe, Fangirl and Via Sistina, with several using the Royal Randwick feature as a springboard to even greater success later in the campaign.

The 2026 edition adds another layer of intrigue, with exciting mares Autumn Glow and Sheza Alibi set to clash for the first time in what shapes as one of the most anticipated early-season showdowns.

2021 Winx Stakes

What Happened Next?

The Winx Stakes has proven a genuine launching pad for some of the modern era’s biggest stars. Winx won three consecutive editions from 2016-18 and went on to win the Cox Plate in each of those seasons, while 2022 winner Anamoe later captured that year’s Cox Plate.

More recently, Via Sistina won the 2024 Winx Stakes before going on to dominate the Cox Plate, then returned in 2025 to successfully defend both crowns.
