Wyong Tips August 2

NSW Jockeys Association Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Wyong Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Orange Tsunami

Two placings since resuming have Orange Tsunami ready to peak third-up after beginning his campaign with a seventh at Gosford in June.

The first of those efforts came at this venue four weeks ago, where he raced behind the speed and kept on well for third over 1350m on a Soft 7.

Beaten three lengths on that occasion, the form has since been strengthened by the runner-up placing in metropolitan company and the ninth subsequently winning here.

He then finished one place better when stepped up to 1500m at Hawkesbury, while a drying track is no concern given his sound-surface form last preparation.

Chad Schofield takes the ride for the first time, and Orange Tsunami looks capable of breaking through for his maiden victory.

Wyong Best Bet - Race 3 No. 8 Coco Affair

Coco Affair has demonstrated plenty of ability in her two starts to date, placing third on both occasions at Warwick Farm.

The filly trialled well before resuming last month and, after jumping from barrier four, stayed on nicely without ever appearing likely to trouble the winner.

That performance suggested the daughter of Home Affairs would appreciate the rise in distance she receives here.

Further improvement looks likely at just the third start of her career, while the drop to provincial company is another positive.

John O’Shea and Tom Charlton’s representative has drawn an inside barrier and can break through at the third attempt.

Wyong Favourite - Race 6 No. 7 Cool Waters

Back-to-back victories at Coffs Harbour and Scone highlighted the progress Cool Waters made during her previous preparation.

The latter came over 900m in Benchmark 58 company, where she settled behind the speed and scored by just under half a length from barrier five.

Her unbeaten record ended when resuming with a second at Newcastle last month, although she was forced to race very wide without cover throughout.

The mare had trialled well before that return and is proven on both Good and Soft ground, so the expected conditions should pose no concern.

Ashley Morgan reunites with the four-year-old after partnering her at Scone, and she looks capable of registering a third victory from four starts.

Wyong Value Bet - Race 8 No. 14 Johnny Smash

Several solid efforts in defeat this preparation suggest Johnny Smash is going well enough to feature in the finale.

He went close over 1500m at Hawkesbury two starts ago, losing by a narrow margin with the wet conditions firmly in his favour.

The son of Brave Smash then performed with credit in Class 1 company at Kembla Grange, with that run representing his best effort to date on Good ground.

A return to this venue is another positive, given he has recorded a win and a second from his two previous appearances at Wyong.

Although generally ridden with restraint in recent starts, Johnny Smash has shown tactical versatility and may be capable of causing an upset.
