That effort preceded a debut at Morphettville’s Parks circuit eight days later, where he raced midfield and finished sixth in a 1000m Benchmark 68 against more experienced rivals.

He gave some trouble in the barriers that day but stuck on well under the circumstances before being spelled.

Lyra Star has trialled nicely ahead of his return, including a recent success at Strathalbyn, and looks well prepared for his second campaign.

With Tahlia Hutchinson claiming 2kg and drawn next to the rail, he shapes as value to resume with a win dropping back to maiden grade.

Murray Bridge Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Dunreal

Matthew Seyers’ gelding made an ideal start to his career with a debut win over 1200m at Balaklava last year, showing his liking for wet conditions.

He backed that up with a solid effort at Morphettville, finishing seventh in a Benchmark 62 before stepping up to 1550m and placing third on the Parks circuit.

Both of those efforts came on good ground, and a return to rain-affected footing poses no issue here.

Dunreal has trialled soundly leading into his return and drops back in trip for this assignment, which looks a suitable kick-off point.

Kayla Crowther takes the ride, and the four-year-old should be strong late if the race sets up for backmarkers.

Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 5 No. 11 She Sparkles

The five-year-old has been safely held in most runs this preparation but hinted at improvement last start when third over 1400m at Balaklava.

Her lone win came on a soft surface, so conditions should suit with rain-affected ground forecast.

She’s drawn wide but that may not be a disadvantage, as she’s performed best when allowed to settle and run on late.

With Polly Brewster claiming 3kg on her only ride of the day, She Sparkles looks an each-way hope at odds.

Carlton Draught NMW-LY Handicap (Benchmark 60) Tips (Race 6)


Murray Bridge Best Bet - Race 6 No. 9 On The Map

She was consistent in her early starts, placing fourth in three of her first four outings including on debut over 1100m on heavy ground at Gawler.

After a couple of solid runs over this distance, she broke through with a decisive win at Balaklava two weeks ago, racing on speed and drawing clear by two-and-a-half lengths.

That performance came on a Good 4 track, and she’s handled a range of surfaces, suggesting she’s versatile under different conditions.

Trained by Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray, the mare looks well placed to go back-to-back stepping up in grade.

Regular rider Emily Finnegan stays aboard, and the pair are capable of extending their winning combination.
