Belmont Favourite - Race 4 No. 1 Maalis Song

He produced two encouraging performances over April and May, including a runner-up finish at start two in a Saturday three-year-old handicap at Ascot.

Maalis Song was then superbly placed back to provincial level at Northam, where favourite backers were left frustrated after he shifted out badly late when seemingly home.

The gelding was spelled immediately after that effort, and while a touch tardy away in a recent trial, there was plenty of merit in the way he closed off.

That October 13 heat rated strongly for maiden class, and he was doing his best work through the line despite the slow start.

With added maturity and race experience now under his belt, Maalis Song can justify favouritism in his return.

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Summer’s Legacy

She should have finished closer first-up at Belmont after finding traffic in the run home and losing momentum at a key stage.

Second-up, Summer’s Legacy stepped again to 1400m and boxed on well after settling further back than ideal in a small but even field.

That effort should bring her right on for this third-up assignment, with the rise to 1650m and a kinder map both likely positives.

She broke through at Belmont in February before taking on stronger opposition through the WA Oaks and WATC Derby series, where she held her own at stakes level.

Back to a more suitable trip and class here, Summer's Legacy looks well placed to return to the winner’s list.

Glenroy Chaff Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Belmont Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Startling Star

Startling Star has been a beaten favourite at her last two, though there were genuine excuses in the latest when giving a big start in a slowly run race that the on-speed division.

Before that, she was a little flat on the seven-day turnaround when dealing with a Heavy 8 track, but her prior victory over Old Mate Henry has held up superbly.

That galloper went on to win his next two starts, including a Saturday 60+ at Ascot, which franked the form.

Clint Johnston-Porter now takes over in the saddle, and she’s drawn to settle closer from a better barrier.

With conditions to suit and a senior rider aboard, Startling Star gets her chance to atone.

Belmont Value Bet - Race 7 No. 13 Secret Identity

Wednesday’s Belmont card shapes kindly for favourite supporters through the middle section, but the last appears a touch more open.

It's worth respecting Secret Identity on stable debut for Kath Pinter, with the gelding ticking over nicely via a soft 1200m trial win at Belmont on October 13.

Jason Whiting retains the ride for this fresh assignment, and the six-year-old looks ready to run a forward race despite modest first-up stats.

His 1400m and Belmont records are both solid, and he drops to the 54kg minimum for this engagement.

Following a pleasing trial and a light impost, he’s one to keep safe at a big quote.
