Bendigo Tips October 29

Bendigo Locksmiths BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Bendigo Favourite - Race 3 No. 3 Opening Address

He looked to have every chance first-up at Seymour but peaked late under 62kg, which was understandable given he was entitled to need the run.

A Listed winner on Melbourne Cup Day last year, the son of the late So You Think — who was sadly lost last week — has a strong second-up record and generally improves with racing.

Opening Address was a dominant winner at this stage of his first campaign and wasn’t disgraced in the Group 1 Australian Guineas second-up last preparation.

Connections chose to scratch from the last race on Moonee Valley Gold Cup Night, an event that appeared suitable, and instead he stays in BM70 grade here.

With limited early speed outside of Shiny New Deel, the second market elect, Opening Address can push forward early and control the race from a handy position.

Filkel BM66 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Bendigo Best Bet - Race 5 No. 11 Fluent

She was a dominant debut winner early last season and, while unable to progress in two spring runs after a freshen-up, the daughter of Shamus Award returned with a strong runner-up finish in March.

The winner of that race, Mckeyla, was in top form at the time and franked the performance with a competitive third at Group 3 level when covering ground.

Fluent went one better second-up before a fifth-of-ten at Listed level in Adelaide and was then spelled following two Melbourne runs against tougher company.

Early in a campaign could again be the right time to catch her, with her peak performances coming when fresh or on the way up.

Back in BM66 grade, Fluent looks well placed in this first-up assignment.

Prestige Event Hire BM78 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Bendigo Next Best - Race 6 No. 11 Scillato

Scillato showed above-average ability early, opening her career with three consecutive wins including a 2.5-length track-and-trip triumph here despite doing plenty wrong.

Her Flemington metro success completed the hat-trick before a solid fourth at Listed level, where she looked a touch flat at the end of a busy preparation.

Despite a short break, she was given extra time after failing to fire during the Adelaide Carnival and looks better placed resuming here.

Her October 14 workout at Seymour was sharp, suggesting she’s come back in good order for this campaign.

Well suited fresh in BM78 grade, Scillato can begin her spring on a winning note.

Ladbrokes Bendigo Cup Tips (Race 7)

Bendigo Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Quietness

Last year’s Bendigo Cup proved a key form race, with Knight’s Choice going on to win the Melbourne Cup at his next start after finishing fifth in this event.

Other subsequent winners included Berkeley Square, who claimed the Ballarat Cup soon after, underlining the quality of the form.

Quietness was unlucky in the Coongy Cup last start, running the fastest final 400m and 200m of the race after being slow away and held-up in traffic.

She’s hinted at ability since arriving in Australia, having thrown away two races in winter before showing improvement with racing.

It’s close to D-Day for the mare, but Quietness brings the right platform and looks ready to deliver in a suitable feature assignment.

The Sporting Globe After The Last BM78 Tips (Race 9)

Bendigo Value Bet - Race 9 No. 1 Celsius Star

The jury remains out on his effectiveness over 1400m, though he’s only been tried twice and the most recent fourth-of-twelve effort was sound in stronger company.

Celsius Star showed pace on that occasion and stuck on well against better-graded rivals, suggesting this drop to BM78 level suits.

This $100k heat of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final looks an ideal target, with the $500k final to follow on VRC Oaks Day next week.

He’s been sent around at big odds all campaign but has competed honestly and should strip hard-fit after five runs this season.

Drawing kinder here and retaining Hannah Edgley’s 2kg claim, Celsius Star is capable of surprising at each-way odds.

Also include Powerbound as a knockout hope. Ideally, he’d be in something a touch easier, but his first and second-up efforts have both been full of merit.
