Ballarat Tips August 7

McGrath Ballarat Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Ballarat Best Bet - Race 2 No. 9 Immerse

The daughter of Frosted failed to shine when debuting at Seymour in January, however, she has placed in each of her three subsequent starts.

Two of those efforts came over 1100m, including when beaten less than a length into second in a maiden at Bendigo in March.

Immerse raced from mid-division when encountering a Good 4 track that day and she raced on similar going at Cranbourne the following month.

The filly rounded out her first campaign with a third at Cranbourne and the winner of that event took out the VOBIS Gold Strike at her next outing.

She has worked well ahead of her return to action, with jump-out wins recorded at Werribee and Flemington.

The three-year-old has joined the Tony & Calvin McEvoy team from James Cummings’ stable ahead of her seasonal debut and she looks up to saluting in this contest.

Ballarat Favourite - Race 6 No. 3 All In Vain

Shay Keating’s representative was well held in six starts on turf, icluding when tenth-of-eleven over 1300m at Bendigo at the end of May.

However, he has demonstrated improvement since being switched to the synthetic track here, including when fifth in a 1500m maiden in June.

All In Vain was beaten just under five-and-a-half-lengths that day and he went on to break his maiden in impressive fashion here next time.

The gelding came home nearly four lengths clear of his seven rivals when contesting a similar event over the same track/trip on that occasion.

An uncontested lead proved helpful that day, with All In Vain going on to prove that he stays further when finishing two lengths fourth over 2200m here last time.

The four-year-old was ridden with slightly more restraint in a Benchmark 70 handicap there and the drop in grade is a positive in this contest.

Ballarat Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 3 Ruminate

The five-year-old has shown good form at this venue in the past, winning twice and recording a further five top three finishes from eight starts.

The most recent of those two victories saw the gelding triumph by over a length when competing in a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap here just under a year ago.

The son of So You Think has gone well in metro company since then, including when winning over 1500m at Caulfield Heath in December.

He triumphed by just under half-a-length that day and the gelding was spelled following an eighth at Flemington over 1600m the following month.

That Flemington contest has produced a number of subsequent winners, while Ruminate showed up well in saluting in a recent tjump-out at this course.

While yet to win over this distance, Matt Cumani’s representative usually runs his race, while he has finished runner-up in both first-up appearances.

Ballarat Value Bet - Race 8 No. 6 Farisha

The mare broke through for her first win when saluting in a 1200m maiden held on a wet track at Donald in May last year.

However, her subsequent efforts for the Ben, Will & JD Hayes team were nothing to write home about and she fetched just $2,500 when sold at the Inglis 2025 March Online Sale.

The six-year-old debuted for the Reece Goodwin stable with a good third, beaten just under a length in a Benchmark 58 handicap over 1200m here in June.

Racing from the front that day, Farisha was overhauled in the straight, having jumped from barrier seven.

She was ridden with more restraint when contesting a similar event over the same distance at Pakenham a month ago.

The daughter of Nicconi delivered another solid effort in finishing a good fourth that day, with the runner-up giving the form a boost by winning here on Monday.
