Matthew Breetzke was the star with 112 off 106 balls as South Africa posted 297-8, before Keshav Maharaj ripped through Australia with 4-20. Australia had started their chase strongly through Mitchell Marsh but collapsed against spin to be bowled out for 230.

Breetzke over 26.5 runs is the batting bet. We backed him for 30+ in the opener and the market has barely moved despite his century. He now has six scores of 50+ across his first 14 ODI innings and has already made 88 and 112 in his two innings against Australia.

Maharaj 2+ wickets is the bowling selection. Australia struggled badly once South Africa introduced spin in Game 1, with Maharaj and Bjorn Fortuin combining for six wickets. Maharaj does not need another four-wicket performance here, with two enough to land the bet.

It follows five consecutive ODI series victories over Australia, including each of the previous three series played in South Africa. The Proteas also won 2-1 when the teams met in Australia in 2025.

The venue changes for Game 2, with Australia historically holding a solid record at The Wanderers. They have won six of their 11 ODIs at the ground, but South Africa enter Johannesburg with both the series lead and the stronger recent head-to-head record.

South Africa have now won four consecutive ODIs after following their 3-0 sweep of Namibia with a convincing victory over Australia.

Breetzke continued his remarkable start to ODI cricket with 112 in Durban, while Marco Jansen's 75 off 59 helped turn a competitive total into 297-8. Maharaj then led the attack with 4-20 as Australia were dismissed for 230.

Aiden Markram missed Game 1 for personal reasons but was originally expected to be available for the remaining two matches. His return would give South Africa another top-order option and could force a change to the batting combination.

The Proteas remain without Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Ottneil Baartman and Nandre Burger, leaving Jansen, Gerald Coetzee and the spinners with increased responsibility.

Australia's four-match winning streak ended emphatically in Durban, but there were periods where they were well positioned.

They reduced South Africa to 40-2 and later 152-4 before the Breetzke-Jansen partnership changed the innings. Marsh then made 60 off 36 balls to give the chase an excellent start before Australia's middle order struggled against spin.

Nathan Ellis was Australia's leading wicket-taker with 3-50, while Adam Zampa took 2-50.

The biggest issue heading into Johannesburg is how Australia respond to South Africa's spin attack. Maharaj and Fortuin combined for 6-54 in the opener, turning what had been a promising chase into a comfortable South African victory.
