Richmond will be relying on the fitness of their veterans who are in different stages of the backends of their careers. Success under new coach Adem Yze will have to wait as the Tigers begin their rebuild and life after Damien Hardwick and Jack Riewoldt.

What’s to like

The weight of expectation is not on the backs of Richmond this season which will be a positive as they move on to a new phase in their development.

Tom Lynch is back running and will return for the Tigers, who sorely missed the go-to target up front last season. Dustin Martin is off contract at the end of the season so we can expect a big year from the former Brownlow medalist. Tim Taranto won the Tiger Best and Fairest last season and is set for another good season in the middle.

What’s NOT to like

There are a lot of unknowns surrounding Richmond which has their fans uneasy heading into their first full season without three-time premiership winning coach Damien Hardwick and will be under the reigns of Adem Yze. Hardwick wasn’t the only veteran departure with Jack Riewoldt and Trent Cotchin retiring at the end of last season.

The concern for Richmond is going to be how the team adjust to the new coaching style and game plan under Yze, with rumour that the Tigers will put boot to ball and play to the wings instead of controlling the ball through the hands and playing more risky footy through the middle of the field.
