I'm thinking the latter might be the case here. Fritz hasn't been convincing at all in 2025 - in fact, if you take out the Laver Cup, he's only taken one top 10 scalp all year and none on hardcourt. Musetti has been dominant in this matchup lately and will have the home crowd cheering him on - I think the Italian can at least win a set and push this Over 23.5 total games.

Overall, I think it's been a solid but unspectacular year for Fritz - he picked things up during the grass swing by winning two ATP titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne, along with reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals.

However, the American would have been disappointed with his summer hardcourt swing, which culminated with a quarter-final loss to Novak Djokovic at the US Open.

Fritz finished runner-up in Tokyo, but since then his form has been disappointing, suffering early exits at the Shanghai and Paris Masters to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Alexander Bublik, while he also lost in the second round of Basel to Ugo Humbert.

The 28-year-old did enough to qualify for the ATP Finals for the third time in his career and he'll be hoping to make it out of the group stage once again after reaching the semi-finals in 2022 and the final last year, where he went down to Jannik Sinner.

Musetti heads into this contest with a 44-20 record on the season, securing his debut qualification for the ATP Finals at the last minute after Djokovic decided to withdraw.

Despite some tough moments, it's been a brilliant overall year for Musetti - he cracked the top 10 for the first time mainly due to his incredible clay swing, which saw him reach the final of the Monte Carlo Masters before semi-final finishes in Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros.

An injury picked up in that French Open semi-final contributed to Musetti's subsequent dip in form and he hasn't really been able to recapture his best tennis since - although he has made finals at both Chengdu and Athens, the quarter-finals of the US Open and semi-finals of Vienna in that time.

The Italian's finals record is becoming a mental hurdle that will prove tougher to overcome with each title match, with Musetti now holding a 0-5 record in his last five finals.

One of those defeat came last week in Athens, where Musetti battled through multiple three-setters to reach the title match, only to fall 4-6 6-3 7-5 to Djokovic in a match that lasted three hours.
