One of the brightest teenage talents in tennis, Kouame made headlines with a brilliant run to the French Open third round earlier this year - and now, after a bit of a rough period, he's back electrifying home fans in Lyon, taking out the experienced Lorenzo Sonego in his opening round.

There's no doubt Kouame has the talent to contend for big titles if he remains on his current trajectory, but right now he'll be aiming to make an impact against Musetti - the second-highest ranked player he's ever faced.

Musetti has been struggling with various injury problems all year, but he didn't have any trouble dealing with Matteo Arnaldi in his Lyon opener, beating his countryman for the fifth straight meeting.

Injuries have derailed what promised to be a breakthrough season for Musetti. The Italian climbed to a career-best world No. 5 in January, but his momentum came to an abrupt halt when he was forced to retire from his Australian Open quarter-final against Novak Djokovic despite holding the lead. He has struggled to rediscover that form ever since.

There were encouraging signs when Musetti reached the Cincinnati quarter-finals, only for fitness concerns to resurface at the US Open, where he suffered a disappointing first-round defeat to Dane Sweeny.

His fortunes failed to improve during the Asian swing, with Musetti making just one tournament appearance and falling in three sets to Chinese wildcard Yi Zhou in his opening match.

Musetti may have restored some confidence in his Lyon opener, demolishing out-of-form countryman Matteo Arnaldi for the loss of just five games, easing to a 6-1 6-4 victory.

The Frenchman won his first tour-level match at the Miami Masters and made a sparkling run to the third round of Roland Garros, beating Marin Cilic and Adolfo Daniel Vallejo before falling in four to Alejandro Tabilo.

Predictably, Kouame struggled in the aftermath with a rough run of results at Challenger and ATP level, but a return home has seen an upturn in form.

Kouame registered his fourth tour-level win of the year in his Lyon opener, taking care of World No. 89 Lorenzo Sonego by a 7-6(2) 6-4 score.
