Como vs Man United UEFA Champions League Tips & Prediction
Manchester United hold good value for the upset when they travel to the north of Italy to face Como on Matchday 3 of the Champions League on Wednesday.
I love what Cesc Fabregas has done at Como - they were brilliant in finishing fourth in the Serie A last term, securing Champions League football for the first time. The Blue and Whites also started this season strongly, but they've been dealt their fair share of injuries recently and their squad depth is being tested, juggling domestic and European commitments for the first time.
Como are winless in three of their last four games, losing 2-0 to Frosinone and going down 3-2 away to Feyenoord on Matchday 2, while they failed to take advantage of a 10-man Roma at home in the league, settling for a 0-0 stalemate.
Fabregras' side returned to the winners circle with a 3-1 dispatch of Fiorentina at the weekend, but they weren't convincing at all and I think were fortunate to come away with all three points. Fiorentina generated 2.11xG (vs 1.59), along with creating more big chances, hitting the woodwork and leading the shot count.
What I'm saying is that Como haven't been convincing at all lately and they are under big pressure to perform at home in what is the biggest game in the club's history.
Now, of course United have been awful to start the season, winning just two games and looking slow, flat, lethargic and devoid of any creative spark in the final third.
But, there were some promising signs in the 1-1 draw away to in-form Leeds at the weekend - there was certainly more effort and willingness to engage in the dirty work, which is a start.
So at $3.00 odds, I think United are worth a punt to cause the upset here. I'm also backing plenty of goals, with Bruno Fernandes & Bryan Mbeumo the most likely players to do damage for the Red Devils.
Como vs Man United Stats & Trends
- Como are winless in three of their last four games
- Como have lost to Frosinone & Feyenoord in that period

- United have seen an average of 4.13 goals per game in their last eight CL games
- Como have seen 4+ goals in their last two games
- United registered a 1-1 draw away to Leeds at the weekend - a team arguably in much better recent form than Como

Como vs Man United Head To Head
This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Como have never faced an English side in their history, while United are unbeaten in their last six away games vs Italian teams in the Champions League dating back to 2007.
Como Form Analysis
It was a triumphant debut in the Champions League for Como as they crushed Leipzig 4-1 on Matchday 1.
However, things have turned sour since that milestone, with Como coming into this clash having failed to win three of their last four games.
That's included 2-0 and 3-2 defeats to Frosinone and Feyenoord in the Serie A and Matchday 2 of the Champions League, while they were also held to a 0-0 stalemate with a 10-man Roma.
Como got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Fiorentina on the road over the weekend, with Nico Paz playing a starring role with a goal and assist for Greek striker Anastasios Douvikas.
Como Team News
Douvikas has scored in both of Como's CL games this term and will be looking to continue his good form here.
Assane Diao has been ruled out with a thigh injury, so the likes of Paz and Martin Baturina will provide support for Douvikas in the final third.
Trevoh Chalobah (muscular) and Moise Kean (shin) are also in doubt and will need to prove their fitness in the lead-up to kick-off.
Como Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Robert Sanchez; Ivan Smolcic, Marc Oliver Kempf, Jacobo Ramon, Alex Valle; Maximo Perrone, Luis Milla; Mattia Liberali, Nico Paz, Martin Baturina; Anastasios Douvikas
Man United Form Analysis
It's been a nightmare start to the season for United, winning just two of their opening 10 games in all competitions.
Michael Carrick's side have gone winless in six games for the first time since 2019, while it's also United's worst start to a top flight season in four decades.
The Red Devils are just two points above the relegation zone, but did show some more fight in a 1-1 draw away to Leeds at the weekend, with Bryan Mbeumo getting on the scoresheet.
United got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start with a 4-0 home win over minnows Sabah, but were absolutely no match for Atletico Madrid on Matchday 2, conceding in the first minute and going down 2-0.
Man United Team News
Growing injury toll for United, with Manuel Ugarte (knee), Patrick Dorgu (hamstring), Leny Yoro (suspended), Benjamin Sesko (shin), Ayden Heaven (illness), Kobbie Mainoo (unspecified), Lisandro Martinez (thigh), Marcus Rashford (hip) and Luke Shaw (unspecified) all ruled out.
Martinez came off at half-time in the draw with Leeds, which means Matthijs de Ligt could come into the starting side for his first game in almost a year following a back injury.
Man United Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Senne Lammens; Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Diogo Dalot; Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba; Amad Diallo, Youri Tielemans, Bruno Fernandes; Bryan Mbeumo
Verdict
United are good value for the upset in a game that should see plenty of goals.
