Musetti is defending a truckload of points this European clay swing after making at least the semi-finals of all four big tournaments last year - a task that has been made all the more challenging with his injury-disrupted start to the year.

Lehecka meanwhile has been in great form over the last month or so, advancing to the Miami Masters final and pushing towards a top 10 debut.

I think this will be a tight encounter, which means Lehecka with a +2.5 games start appeals. The Czech has been serving out of a tree so far in Madrid, firing down 10 aces and with 75 per cent of first serves in his straight set demolition of Alex Michelsen in the previous round. Lehecka didn't face a break point throughout, so I also don't mind at least one tiebreak to be played at plus money.

Musetti enjoyed a bright start to the year when he made the Hong Kong final and the Australian Open quarter-finals, where he was dominating Novak Djokovic before being forced to retire with a leg injury.

The Italian was sidelined until Indian Wells and also missed Miami with an arm problem, only claiming his first win again in Barcelona after an opening exit in Monte Carlo to Valentin Vacherot.

Musetti reached the quarter-finals in Barcelona before going down to eventual champion Arthur Fils and is hoping to return to the last eight in Madrid.

It's been a solid tournament so far, with Musetti moving past Hubert Hurkacz and Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets - but this will be his toughest test by far.

It was a slow start to the season for Lehecka, who was once again battling various niggling injury issues.

However, once Lehecka gets his body right, he's proved before that he's a top 10 talent - and he's surging towards that bracket for the first time after a prolific last month or so.

The Czech defeated Taylor Fritz on his way to a maiden Masters 1000 final in Miami before making the R16 in Monte Carlo.

A former semi-finalist in Madrid in 2024, Lehecka is once again looking good in the Spanish capital, beating Alejandro Tabilo before a dominant 6-4 6-2 victory over Alex Michelsen, where he didn't face a single break point and fired down 10 aces.
