Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Blockx Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

A fascinating semi-final showdown awaits in Madrid on Friday night when two-time champion Alexander Zverev comes up against rising star Alexander Blockx.

Zverev remains on the hunt for a hat-trick of Madrid titles, but he's got a terrible recent record in Masters 1000 semi-finals, while Blockx is playing some fearless tennis as he further establishes himself as one of the brightest young talents in the game.

The 21-year-old from Belgium has conquered three top 20 players on the trot to reach a first tour-level semi-final, including a straight sets dispatch of defending champion Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals. Zverev meanwhile hasn't been entirely convincing, but he produced a dominant display to get some revenge on Flavio Cobolli in the last eight, dropping just five games to turn the tables from their Munich clash 12 days ago.

The altitude in Madrid is absolutely perfect for Blockx, who can fire in his booming serve and look for some first-strike tennis with his forehand.

"I think the conditions suit me well here. I feel like it’s clay which is slow, so I have time to settle and hit my shots, go for my shots. At the same time, it’s quite fast with the altitude and the heat sometimes. I think it’s the perfect combination for me," Blockx said after his 6-4 6-4 win over Ruud.

With Blockx serving well and Zverev also equipped with one of the best serves in the sport, I think both players can hold enough to push this Over 21.5 total games.

I loved what I saw from Blockx against Ruud - he was calm and composed throughout and doesn't look like he will be overwhelmed by the occasion. Backing the Belgian to win Over 10.5 total games, which also covers a tight straight sets defeat.
  • Blockx has won 10 of his 12 matches on clay this season
  • Blockx has a 4-2 record vs top 20 players
  • Blockx has won Over 10.5 games in five of his six matches vs top 10 players (one miss exactly 10)
  • Zverev has lost 10 of his last 12 Masters 1000 semi-finals
  • Zverev has won 23 of his last 24 matches on clay vs players outside the top 50
  • Zverev's two matches on clay vs players outside the top 50 in 2026 saw Over 21.5 games

Zverev vs Blockx Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Alexander Zverev Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 25-7
  • ATP Madrid Record: 29-6
  • Current Ranking: No. 3
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)

Zverev’s 2026 season has taken on a familiar shape - regularly going deep into tournaments without quite getting over the line for silverware. Even so, that level of consistency still places him ahead of most of the field, with only Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic clearly outperforming him.

The German has made the semi-finals at every major event this year, including the Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo. On each occasion, he’s been stopped by either Alcaraz or Sinner, with the latter responsible for all three of his Masters 1000 exits.

He looked poised to finally secure a title on home soil in Munich, but once again fell short in the semi-finals, this time against an in-form Flavio Cobolli.

Now in Madrid, Zverev has ground his way into a fourth straight Masters 1000 semi-final with wins over Mariano Navone, Terence Atmane and Jakub Mensik before avenging his Munich defeat to Cobolli, dominating the Italian in a 6-1 6-4 victory, winning 32 of 39 points behind his first serve.

Alexander Blockx Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 9-3
  • ATP Madrid Record: 5-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 69
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 69 (April 2026)

Blockx is rapidly emerging as a genuine contender at every level, quietly compiling an impressive 9-3 record at tour level so far this season.

Having built his foundation on the Challenger circuit, the Belgian has transitioned seamlessly to the ATP Tour and his breakthrough run to a maiden Masters 1000 semi-final in Madrid is set to propel him into the world’s top 40 in the next rankings update.

The 21-year-old has been steadily building momentum throughout the clay swing, coming through qualifying to reach the Round of 16 in Monte Carlo before backing it up with another R16 showing in Munich.

In Madrid, he has taken another significant step forward, fighting past Cristian Garín and Brandon Nakashima in three sets before producing statement straight-sets wins over Felix Auger-Aliassime, Francisco Cerundolo and defending champion Casper Ruud, lifting his record against top-20 opposition to 4-2.
