While Zverev has a stellar Madrid record, Cobolli comes in as one of the most unpredictable players on tour—recently scoring an upset over Daniil Medvedev. However, the article recommends backing Zverev for a straight sets victory, based on his consistency, strong serving in Madrid conditions, and Cobolli’s struggles with top opponents. Alexander Zverev vs Flavio Cobolli Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Two-time Madrid Masters champion Alexander Zverev will have revenge on his mind when he comes up against the streaky Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals on Thursday night.
Cobolli remains one of the more flashy and unpredictable players on tour and the Italian was at his enigmatic best in Munich a couple of weeks ago when he stunned Zverev in straight sets in front of his home fans. Cobolli continues to be very hit and miss, but right now he's on fire and is coming off a third top 10 scalp over Daniil Medvedev in his last outing in Madrid to make a first Masters 1000 quarter-final.
Meanwhile, Zverev continues to seemingly do the bare minimum to get the job done. I think it's safe to say the German hasn't improved over the last few years and is being stubborn with his current game style and hesitancy to add a layer of aggression we all know he has. Regardless, Zverev loves the Madrid conditions - he's 28-6 lifetime in the Spanish capital with two titles and a runner-up showing.
I think the revenge factor is real in this one. Cobolli struggles with his consistency and asking him to register back-to-back top 10 wins when he has a 3-17 record against the elite is a tall order. Expect Zverev to be a brick wall from the baseline and to use his serve effectively in the Madrid altitude to come away with a convincing win.
Zverev vs Cobolli Stats & Trends
- Zverev has won his last six Masters 1000 quarter-finals

Zverev vs Cobolli Head To Head
Zverev leads 2-1, but as mentioned, Cobolli was a dominant straight sets winner on the clay of Munich a couple of weeks ago.

Alexander Zverev Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 24-7
- ATP Madrid Record: 28-6
- Current Ranking: No. 3
- Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)
Zverev’s 2026 campaign has followed a familiar pattern - consistently deep runs without converting them into titles. Even so, that level remains comfortably ahead of most of the tour, with only Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic operating above him.
The German has reached the semi-finals at every major stop this season, including the Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo. Each time, his progress has been halted by either Alcaraz or Sinner, with Sinner accounting for him at all three Masters 1000 events.
Zverev was aiming to break through for his first title of the year on home soil in Munich, but once again fell short at the semi-final stage, this time to a surging Cobolli.
The 29-year-old has battled his way into the Madrid quarter-finals with wins over Mariano Navone, Terence Atmane and Jakub Mensik. Zverev managed to come from a break down in the deciding set of his R16 clash with Mensik, winning 81 per cent of first serve points in a 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 victory.
“I’m very happy with the battle,” Zverev said. “Against him, in altitude, very, very difficult. He serves incredible. So yeah, I'm definitely happy with the match and happy with the win.”
Flavio Cobolli Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 17-9
- ATP Madrid Record: 7-2
- Current Ranking: No. 13
- Career-High Ranking: No. 13 (March 2026)
Cobolli’s 2026 season has been largely all or nothing - either mounting serious runs at quality events or exiting early without much impact.
Of his 17 wins this year, more than half have come in just two ATP 500 tournaments, highlighted by his title run in Acapulco and a finals appearance in Munich. He also produced a solid semi-final showing in Delray Beach, but outside of those weeks, consistency has been lacking - especially in Masters 1000 events, where he had managed just two wins in three tournaments.
However, the Italian has eclipsed that number in a single tournament in Madrid to reach his maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final.
After taking care of South American clay courters Ugo Carabelli and Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, Cobolli produced a brilliant performance to knock out Daniil Medvedev 6-3 5-7 6-4 for just his third top 10 win.
