Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime are set for a crucial encounter at the ATP Finals in Turin. Both players are coming off straight-sets defeats in their openers and are dealing with injuries—Shelton's shoulder and Auger-Aliassime's calf. Auger-Aliassime has shown strong form indoors this year with a 17-2 record and could have the upper hand if his injury doesn't hamper his performance. Shelton, struggling against top 10 players, faces a tough challenge. Conditions favor Auger-Aliassime, making him a promising underdog pick.

Ben Shelton vs Felix Auger-Aliassime Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's a must-win clash for Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime as the pair square off at the ATP Finals in Turin on Wednesday.

Both players failed to create a single break point and lost in straight sets in their respective opening matches at the season-ending championships, while they're also each carrying injury concerns heading into this contest. Shelton was sidelined after the US Open with a shoulder problem and hasn't looked anywhere near his best since returning, while Auger-Aliassime battled a left calf issue during his defeat to Jannik Sinner. Who prevails to keep their semi-final chances alive?

It makes predicting this encounter a little problematic as it's tough to gauge the extent of Auger-Aliassime's calf injury. The Canadian says it isn't serious and won't affect him going into this showdown, but who knows. Going off the assumption Auger-Aliassime is close to 100 per cent fit, I think he's great value as the underdog here. Felix is an absolute beast indoors - he's won two titles on the surface this year and is actually 17-2 in completed matches, with his only two defeats coming against Sinner. Shelton meanwhile is a little bit of a flat-track bully - he's 7-20 lifetime vs top 10 players and that record worsens to 2-8 in 2025. These conditions clearly favour Auger-Aliassime - if he's fit, he should be winning this.

Head To Head

Auger-Aliassime leads 1-0, crushing Shelton 6-4 6-2 6-1 in the third round of Roland Garros 2024.

Ben Shelton Form

Shelton enters this clash with a 40-22 record on the season, reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 6 and qualifying for the ATP Finals for the first time in his career.

The explosive American has consistently delivered on the big stages in 2025, reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, where it took Jannik Sinner to end his run on both occasions.

Shelton’s biggest breakthrough came in Toronto, where he capitalised on the absence of Sinner and Alcaraz to capture his first Masters 1000 title, defeating Karen Khachanov in the final.

A few weeks later, Shelton looked a genuine US Open title contender before a shoulder injury cruelly forced him to retire mid-tournament.

It's been a slow comeback for Shelton - he didn't really make an impact during the indoor swing in Europe, although he did manage to make the Paris Masters quarter-finals, where once again he ran into an unstoppable Sinner.

The 23-year-old played his debut match at the ATP Finals against Alexander Zverev earlier in the week, but he couldn't convert his chances after leading 6-3 serving in the second set tiebreak, ultimately going down 6-3 7-6(6).

Felix Auger-Aliassime Form

It’s been a resurgent season for Auger-Aliassime, who has compiled a 48-23 record, climbing back into the world’s top 10 and securing his place at the year-end ATP Finals.

The Canadian has produced some of the most consistent tennis of his career, claiming three ATP titles in Adelaide, Montpellier and Brussels, while also finishing runner-up in Dubai and at the Paris Masters.

His form on the big stage has been equally impressive - Auger-Aliassime reached the semi-finals of the US Open, registering top-10 wins over Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev, both fellow Finals qualifiers.

Under pressure to seal his Turin spot, the 25-year-old delivered brilliantly over the closing stretch, winning in Brussels before a deep run to the Paris Masters final, proving his ability to rise in clutch moments.

In total, Auger-Aliassime has won 22 of his last 23 completed matches against players outside of Jannik Sinner, underscoring his dominant form heading into the season-ending championships.

Unfortunately, Auger-Aliassime was grouped in with Sinner at the ATP Finals and he once again couldn't make any real inroads against the dominant World No. 1, fighting hard in a close first set before fading in a 5-7 1-6 defeat.

Verdict

The fitness levels of Auger-Aliassime will determine the outcome of this match - if the Canadian is fit, he should be beating an out-of-form Shelton indoors.

Happy to take a punt on FAA as the underdog, with Shelton's poor record against top 10 players tough to ignore.
