Sunshine Coast Tips September 11
Boss Elevators Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 1)
Sunshine Coast Roughie - Race 1 No. 1 Sealord
Sealord impressed when breaking through at the Gold Coast three starts ago, producing a dominant performance over 2050m on a Soft surface.
The New Zealand-bred gelding came home more than two-and-a-half lengths clear of his nearest rival after challenging widest of all in the straight, staying on strongly to record a convincing maiden victory.
Both subsequent runs have come over shorter distances, including his latest over 1800m back at the Gold Coast, where he met with trouble in running.
Those two appearances against previous winners were both on Good ground, so the return to a wetter surface looks a positive given how well he handled similar conditions in his maiden success.
Apprentice Bella Youngberry has combined successfully with the Tony and Maddysen Sears stable, and with Sealord returning to conditions that suit, he can give this race a shake at a price.
Archers The Strata Professionals Class 5 Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Sunshine Coast Best Bet - Race 3 No. 5 Chalice Well
Chalice Well has shown a clear liking for this venue in the past, including when winning second-up last preparation.
The mare was successful at Class 5 level over this track-and-trip on that occasion and has made only two starts since, both at metropolitan level.
She resumed over 1110m at Doomben with a seventh-place finish at big odds, beaten just under three-and-a-half lengths in a race that has since produced next-start winners from the second and fourth placegetters.
That effort should have brought her on fitness-wise, while the inside barrier is another positive heading into Friday night’s assignment.
With forecast wet conditions also in her favour for the first time since that previous course-and-distance success, Chalice Well looks well placed to prove hard to beat under regular rider Tiffani Brooker.
Guardian Corporate Audit Services Class 3 Plate Tips (Race 5)
Sunshine Coast Value Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Razors
Razors has made two metropolitan appearances this preparation, including a solid first-up third at Doomben on the opening day of the season.
The gelding tracked the speed over 1200m in that Class 3 Plate and finished just under two-and-a-half lengths from the winner, with the form already franked by both runners ahead of him winning subsequently.
His latest effort over 1350m can be forgiven after racing from the front and failing to produce his best, making the return to a different set-up here worth noting.
Both runs this campaign have come on Good ground, but the switch to a wetter surface is no concern given he has already won on Soft going.
Jack Bruce’s gelding advertised his well-being with a Deagon trial win at the start of the month and, from barrier six, Razors appeals as a value chance to return to winning form.
Strata Compliance Solutions BM60 Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Sunshine Coast Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Old Faithful
Old Faithful has been in excellent form in recent months, recording two wins and a third from his past three appearances.
The first of those victories came when breaking his maiden over 2200m at this venue in July, before he returned to winning form at Ipswich last time.
Racing over 2150m on that occasion, the gelding controlled proceedings from the front before drawing clear for an easy three-and-a-half-length success.
Both of those wins came in wet conditions, with his latest triumph recorded in a Benchmark 0-58 on a Soft 5, making Friday night’s expected surface another positive.
The five-year-old has been freshened since that Ipswich victory and, with an inside draw plus Jag Guthmann-Chester retaining the ride after partnering him in both wins, he looks capable of completing the double despite the slight concern around the drop in distance.
