Rosehill Tips September 12

Precise Air Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Rosehill Favourite - Race 4 No. 10 Anthracite

After a failed and short first Sydney preparation, there have been far more encouraging signs from Anthracite in his second campaign under Joe Pride, with the lightly raced six-year-old competitive in all four winter appearances.

He opened with an eye-catching third when resuming over 1300m on the Randwick-Kensington circuit before finishing fourth-of-seven in a messy Canterbury affair where there were excuses.

Anthracite then worked early in a Benchmark 78 at Randwick won by progressive galloper King Of The Sea before stepping to 2000m at Rosehill last start, where he ran into the smart Aethelwulf.

That galloper proved much too good for the Benchmark 78 field, but Anthracite fought off the remainder and could hardly have a better platform for Saturday now that he is hard fit.

The drop back to 1800m is no concern and he carries 3kg less than he did here a fortnight ago, while despite technically rising in grade, this looks a thin enough race overall with some questionable setups among his rivals.

Bisley Workwear Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Mr Verse

Despite appearing well enough placed in the Sandown Benchmark 84 that was scheduled for last Saturday before being moved to Wednesday's Melbourne program, connections may not have been looking only for a dry track with Mr Verse.

The Dan Meagher-trained five-year-old instead returns to Sydney after a competitive fifth-of-13 here when second-up on August 15, where he looked simply a run short over 1400m.

That followed another solid effort when fourth-of-14 over 1200m up the Flemington straight in stronger company than what he faces on Saturday.

Still lightly raced, Mr Verse was an impressive mile winner third-up earlier this season at Sandown when coming from back in the field to defeat Butternut Princess, who went on to place at Group 3 level in her next preparation.

The inside draw may not be ideal for a galloper who needs room and momentum, so he will require some luck, but this looks a very winnable assignment and any improvement off two encouraging winter runs can see him salute.

Myplates Ming Dynasty Quality Tips (Race 6)

Rosehill Value Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Stormy Marco

With each-way odds available about a Chris Waller and James McDonald runner, it would be no surprise to see support arrive for Stormy Marco closer to the jump.

The son of Wootton Bassett impressed in a quiet Rosehill trial on August 21 after showing plenty of promise throughout his first campaign over May and June.

That preparation opened with a stylish debut victory at Hawkesbury before he headed north, where he was unlucky in the Group 2 Sires' Produce Stakes and then placed in the Group 1 JJ Atkins over 1600m behind talented stablemate Tron Bolt.

Connections have avoided the stronger three-year-olds in the Run To The Rose by kicking him off at 1400m in the Ming Dynasty Quality, which gives Stormy Marco a genuine chance fresh against market elects who may be a little vulnerable on exposed form.

The race conditions mean Stormy Marco gives weight to all of his rivals, but barrier two should provide James McDonald with a soft run and going straight to seven furlongs suggests he is forward enough for the assignment.

Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes Tips (Race 7)

Rosehill Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Weeping Woman

Joe Pride has a strong record improving horses as they mature, and Weeping Woman came on in leaps and bounds last season with a winning hat-trick across November and December.

That sequence included a Listed victory before a break, while her only appearance of 2026 resulted in another step forward when winning the Group 3 Triscay Stakes over 1200m at Randwick.

She arrives here with a solid platform for her return after three August trials, winning the latest two, and this may be the right time for her to catch some classier rivals who carry more weight and may ultimately be better suited over further.

Lady Shenandoah and Lazzura are both high-class mares whose better form has generally come over more ground, while Apocalyptic could improve sharply second-up after a fair return and remains dangerous at 1200m.

The map also looks favourable for Weeping Woman under gun front-running rider Tim Clark, with Stardom the main other obvious speed influence drawn to her outside and the possibility of the pair controlling proceedings near the lead.

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 9 No. 6 Skyhook

After impressing as both a two-year-old and early three-year-old, including two black-type victories at Rosehill, Skyhook endured a frustrating run of results through spring and early autumn despite remaining competitive in strong company.

That included a fourth in a fast-run Group 1 Golden Rose before his spring campaign culminated with a fifth-of-12 in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

After two second-up misses, the entire returned with a Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas victory on May 2 before heading north to finish runner-up in the Fred Best Classic and then demolishing some tidy opposition in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic over a mile.

That Gunsynd field included Within The Law, who brought strong form from her two and three-year-old seasons, while Skyhook has since trialled nicely and won his second winter hit-out at Gosford on August 31 under Kerrin McEvoy.

McEvoy was aboard for his Brisbane win and both lead-up trials, and if Skyhook can negotiate the wide barrier early, likely by pushing forward, he looks to have found an ideal race to launch his four-year-old season.

Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 10 No. 7 World Alliance

Although he is not always the easiest horse to catch, World Alliance is worth respecting at a big price in the Rosehill finale, and by that stage of the day there should be a clear indication of whether the track pattern gives him a genuine chance.

The gelding generally gets back and needs favours, with little going his way in a Benchmark 94 here on August 1 when he covered ground on a day where being closer to the rail and on speed was an advantage.

Carbonados won that race and the form has since been strengthened by Althoff, who has impressed with back-to-back victories at his next two starts, while the slight drop in trip and freshen-up are both positives for the son of Rubick.

Prior to that, World Alliance contested the Listed Ramornie Handicap and was badly held up in the country feature, while his earlier performances were all competitive and included a fourth-of-10 in arguably a stronger Benchmark 88 on this program last year.

He is beginning to get back to a winnable mark in the weights and warrants respect at odds, while Karinska is another to include stepping up an extra 100m after coming out of Group company and dropping to just 53kg after the claim.
