Moonee Valley Value Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Mesrour

An interesting runner in the opening leg of the Quaddie is Mesrour, a South Australian visitor who has shown talent without putting it all together and this trip away should bring him on.

His only time finishing out of the money in seven starts was a sixth-of-thirteen at Listed level last winter and the son of Nicconi arrived to that Lightning Stakes attempt off a second-up victory.

Mesrour was an eye-catcher via his February 8 return, where he was runner-up behind an in-form and fitter Steel Tsunami, while Damian Lane can settle him just behind a predicted fast tempo.

Moonee Valley Best Bet - Race 6 No. 8 Our Queen

She was an impressive debut winner last winter, where the Moroney & Thompson-trained galloper worked early on the speed at Bendigo before opening up a big margin late in a high rating maiden.

Our Queen picked up where she left off with a fresh win at Sandown on January 29, where the four-year-old was brave late and the mare was entitled to be vulnerable there given she was only first-up.

That midweek form looks okay despite no subsequent winners coming from the race and while Our Queen receives a penalty, she still looks well placed staying in a BM70 vs her own sex.

Moonee Valley Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Deakin

Following a luckless Australian debut, Deakin looked about the best $6 chance you will see when rising in distance at Pakenham and he saluted in style via that second-up appearance.

The OTI import is looking to atone from a Flemington defeat as an even money fav, but considering the rise in grade from BM78 to BM100 company, that January 18 performance was still sound.

Deakin lacked the turn-of-foot of Shaiyhar at 2000m and he recorded a 6.5-length romp over a similar trip in Europe before contesting stronger races, so 2500m could be what he's searching for now.

Moonee Valley Roughie - Race 8 No. 2 Pioneer River

His was competitive in his first three runs for Gavin Bedggood, which included a second-up Cranbourne win before a runner-up finish behind Disneck when contesting a Randwick BM88.

Disneck is airborne (completed a hat-trick there before a fourth at Group 3 level) and despite a good straight-track record, Pioneer River was scratched from a Flemington sprint last Saturday.

Class-wise, this is an easier assignment for the seven-year-old, who can be forgiven for a last start failure over seven furlongs, where he worked too hard early and back in trip is a positive here.
