Canterbury Tips February 21

Chc Powering The Chase Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Canterbury Best Bet - Race 2 No. 8 Scalable

This progressive filly is improving with racing, with Scalable doing a fair bit wrong in a forgivable debut here and that maiden was taken out by a smart Scintilla (won her next two starts).

She caught eye at start two before backing up a week later, where the three-year-old was heavily supported and while it was only a narrow winning margin, it was a stylish performance.

Up in trip suits the daughter of Reliable Man here and while she's out of maiden grade, her main threats are United Kingdom (maiden winner over a year ago) and Mostro (beaten at Scone last start).

Precise Air Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Canterbury Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Presley

He should've finished much closer on return at Canberra, where the gelding was badly held-up in the home straight and he remained firm in the market there despite some plain trial work.

Presley faces a tougher ask in metro company for this second-up attempt, however, the extra distance is a positive and there's enough references from his last prep that read well enough for this.

He was runner-up to Chassagne, who has since won two city races and prior to that, Presley was fourth behind Hiyaam, Ring Me Up and Kadavar (all subsequent Saturday winners - Kadavar a Listed winner).

Schweppes Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Theblade

This Team Hawkes-trained colt was a brilliant debut winner early in the season and he then given a short spell after a start two miss behind Private Harry, who is one the best up-and-coming sprinters in the country.

He raced keenly throughout that December 7 contest at Rosehill, which took away the required energy that he needed late in the piece and the youngster has since won a Randwick trial.

Theblade is superbly bred, out of Brigite, who is an unraced half-sister to champion sprinter Black Caviar, and his dam is also a full younger sister to All Too Hard (four-time Group 1 winner).

The Agency Real Estate Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Canterbury Roughie - Race 7 No. 5 Wind Of Change

The ex-New Zealand sprinter arrived to Australia in decent touch, with three placings and a win recorded across the ditch earlier in the season prior to her stable debut for Matthew Smith.

She was too bad to be true in her first tilt Down Under, while with a tongue tie (choked down?) and cross-over nose band on ahead of her next run, there may have been an issue there.

It was a much improved effort from Wind Of Change last start, with the mare beaten in the last stride via a fast-run race and she was clearly the pick of the on-speed brigade in that Warwick Farm event.
