Goulburn Best Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Gaultier

Gaultier has performed well in both starts to date, including a debut at Caulfield Heath in May where he was beaten less than two lengths in a metropolitan maiden over 1000m.

Resuming from a spell at Hawkesbury recently, the gelding again produced a good effort when finishing runner-up by half a length after racing close to the speed.

He found only a more experienced front-running rival too strong that day, with the performance carrying further merit given he was subsequently found to be lame.

Gaultier should also have taken fitness benefit from that first-up outing, while the Soft 5 conditions suited and slightly softer ground here should hold no concerns.

Barrier four is another positive as he steps up in distance, and the gelding looks well placed to break through with Lee Magorrian aboard.

Goulburn Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 3 Guy’s Last Prize

Guy’s Last Prize failed to fire at big odds in his first two starts, but the five-year-old has shown significant improvement this preparation.

He defied a wide barrier when resuming with a narrow maiden victory at Moruya in June, racing wide around the home turn on a Soft surface before getting up late.

The gelding then completed a double when stepping to 1660m in a Benchmark 58 at the same venue, confirming the progress he has made this campaign.

Often slowly away, Guy’s Last Prize is likely to be ridden cold again after finishing runner-up over 1600m at Albury last month.

The form from that race has worked out well, with both the winner and fifth subsequently saluting, and Pierre Boudvillain’s mount looks capable of returning to the winner’s circle.

Goulburn Australia Goulburn Cup Tips (Race 7)

Goulburn Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 5 Declichy Boulevard

Proven at a higher level, Declichy Boulevard was Group 1 placed as recently as April last year before spending more than 12 months off the track.

The Chris Waller-trained mare returned in style at Randwick in May, winning a Benchmark 78 over 1400m on a Soft 7 after two lead-up barrier trials.

Ridden cold, she finished strongly to score by almost a length, and the form from that race has since stood up well.

Her only subsequent appearance came in the Magic Millions National Classic at Eagle Farm, where she encountered trouble in running and was beaten only a length when finishing fifth.

Declichy Boulevard handles both Good and wet ground, so a drying surface poses no concern, and she looks well placed to book her spot in the Big Dance.

Electel Services Class 1 Showcase Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Goulburn Value Bet - Race 8 No. 11 Shuttering

Shuttering has produced several solid efforts in wet conditions this preparation, including back-to-back third-place finishes in Class 1 company at Moruya.

The four-year-old followed those runs with a fifth over 1400m at Nowra earlier this month, where a change of tactics saw her race from the front at Benchmark 58 level.

Beaten just over a length, the mare only faded late when ridden by a 4kg claiming apprentice and the performance was better than the bare result suggests.

Jean Van Overmeire has made a good start to the season and looks a positive booking for a runner who should be suited by the forecast conditions.

From the inside draw, Shuttering gets another chance at this distance and rates as value to double her career tally for trainer Luke Pepper.
