Arsenal vs Coventry Premier League Tips & Prediction

Arsenal are tipped to launch their Premier League title defence with a relatively comfortable home win over newly-promoted Coventry at the Emirates on Friday night, with new signing Christos Tzolis registering another score involvement and Viktor Gyokeres getting on the scoresheet against his former club.

The new Premier League season gets underway on Friday night as the reigning champions come up against the dominant Championship winners from last term.

Coventry have plenty of ambition in their return to the top flight after 25 years, breaking their transfer record four times over the summer. Frank Lampard has done a tremendous job since arriving at the club and I do expect Coventry to avoid relegation.

However, coming away with a positive result at the Emirates seems very unlikely. Arsenal are the deserved overwhelming favourites and have strengthened their squad from last season, bringing in the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis, along with Ezri Konsa.

The Gunners had the best defence in the league last term, conceding only 27 goals, while Coventry have been dealt a big blow, with last season's 17-goals striker Haji Wright ruled out for up to three months with injury.

It will also take time for all of Coventry's new signings to gel and form combinations in their first competitive game of the season. Arsenal thumped Man City in the Community Shield and while they may not run away with this game, I'm expecting a comfortable victory to kick things off here.

Arsenal vs Coventry Stats & Trends

Eight of Arsenal's last nine competitive wins were by a 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 score
Arsenal beat Man City 3-0 in last weekend's Community Shield
Christos Tzolis registered 49 goals/assists in 51 games in all comps for Club Brugge last season
Tzolis registered four assists during the preseason, including two vs City in the Community Shield
Viktor Gyokeres scored 21 goals in all comps last season - the next-best Arsenal player had 11

Arsenal vs Coventry Head To Head

Coventry have won just one of the last 14 Premier League meetings - but this will be their first game in the top flight against Arsenal since 2001.

Arsenal Form Analysis

It was a brilliant season for Arsenal as they finally overtook Man City as the undisputed dominant team in England, winning their first Premier League trophy since 2003-04 and advancing to the final of the Champions League, where they narrowly went down to PSG.

Mikel Arteta's side proved extremely tough to break down and executed their game plan to aplomb, especially threatening on set pieces and corners.

After some mixed preseason results, Arsenal got this campaign up and running with an emphatic 3-0 triumph over City in last weekend's Community Shield, with Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz, and Martin Ødegaard getting on the scoresheet and Christos Tzolis registering two assists.

Arsenal Team News

William Saliba and Jurrien Timber are both out injured, but Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are in contention to start after busy World Cup campaigns and coming off the bench in the Community Shield.

Marquee midfield recruit Bruno Guimaraes should slot straight into the starting side alongside Odegaard, while Tzolis should also earn a maiden Premier League start.

Kai Havertz was preferred over Gyokeres up front in the Community Shield, but the Swedish striker should push for start against his former club here.

Possible Arsenal Starting XI: (4-2-3-1): David Raya; Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera, Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori; Bruno Guimaraes, Declan Rice; Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Christos Tzolis; Viktor Gyokeres

Coventry Form Analysis

It's been an incredible last few years for Coventry, who were languishing in League Two as recently as the 2017-18 season.

Coventry were easily the best team in the Championship last season, winning the league by 11 points over Ipswich, earning promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2001.

Frank Lampard's side have recruited well and come into the season having won back-to-back friendlies over Espanyol and Monaco.

Coventry Team News

Haji Wright and Luke Woolfenden are both unavailable through injury.

Caleb Yirenkyi is the new midfield powerhouse, with the Ghanaian arriving with huge potential.

Carl Rushworth, Loum Tchaouna, Aurele Amenda and Frank Onyeka are also aiming to make their debuts for the Sky Blues here.

Possible Coventry Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Carl Rushworth; Milan van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Aurele Amenda, Jay Dasilva; Caleb Yirenkyi, Matt Grimes; Loum Tchaouna, Gustavo Hamer, Brandon Thomas-Asante; Ellis Simms
