Doomben Roughie - Race 2 No. 9 Salt Lake Betty

Salt Lake Betty has been racing consistently this preparation, with two solid top-four finishes from her four runs.

She was fourth over 1400m at the Gold Coast first-up in August, where she struck a wet track and boxed on fairly in a Benchmark 65.

The mare failed to fire at Ipswich next time but improved sharply at Beaudesert last start, placing third in a 1000m Benchmark 62 when jumping from the inside draw.

She again comes up with a low barrier here, and while this is a stronger assignment, she has winning form at Doomben to her name.

With Mark Du Plessis taking the ride, she shapes as an each-way roughie who can figure at odds.

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 10 Pharoah’s Prophecy

Pharoah’s Prophecy has made a bright start to this campaign, winning his first two outings in dominant fashion by a combined six-and-a-half lengths.

He broke his maiden at this track in June over 1350m on a wet surface when leading throughout, before making it two from two with another easy victory up to 1650m on good ground.

The gelding was then favourite for a Benchmark 68 here in August, but he broke through the barriers pre-race and missed the start before boxing on for third.

That effort came from a wide draw, and he was spelled immediately after, with a recent Sunshine Coast jumpout win confirming his fitness.

Back to Doomben and drawn well, he gets the chance to return to winning form.

Doomben Value Bet - Race 6 No. 12 Seneschal

Seneschal hasn’t won since February last year when taking out a Benchmark 68 at Eagle Farm, but his recent runs suggest another victory is close.

The Kingman gelding was narrowly beaten at Ipswich two starts ago over 1350m, before finishing fourth at Eagle Farm ten days back in a 1400m Benchmark 68.

Both of those efforts came on good ground, though he also handles soft and heavy conditions, having placed first-up on rain-affected going.

He has been consistent throughout his career, rarely beaten far, and his three runs this prep indicate he is holding his form.

Back to Doomben and carrying a light weight, he appeals as a value chance in this grade.
