Ballarat Roughie - Race 5 No. 6 Reddivo

The New Zealand-bred gelding has winning form in testing conditions, having saluted by a narrow margin when racing on a Heavy 9 at Mount Gambier in September.

The six-year-old raced from the from the front when contesting a Jericho Cup heat over 3150m that day and he went on to score at Echuca two starts later.

Trained by Jamie Edwards, Reddivo was spelled following a runner-up finish in The Road To Jericho, a 3800m Benchmark 78 handicap at Moonee Valley in November.

He has been racing over much shorter distances this prep, including when down the field over 1600m at Bendigo first up.

The son of Redwood took a step forward when beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths into fifth in a 2025m Benchmark 64 handicap at Cranbourne last time out.

A wide barrier isn’t ideal here, however, Neil Farley’s mount gets a welcome step up in distance and he may prove capable of springing a surprise.

Ballarat Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Capulet

Tony & Calvin McEvoy’s mare won twice last prep, including when contesting a Benchmark 64 handicap at Mornington in December.

The four-year-old finished seventh in her final two outings that prep, with the most recent of those a last-place finish in a Benchmark 7 at Sandown in early February.

The daughter of Extreme Choice made a couple of appearances in jump-out’s prior to resuming, with a fourth over 1500m on the synthetic track here just over two weeks ago.

Capulet was beaten just under eight-and-a-half-lengths, having kept on nicely in behind and she was ridden from off the pace that day.

She generally improves for her first start back, having twice won second-up and Capulet has placed in both starts on heavy going in the past.

Courtney Bellamy takes a valuable three-kilogram’s off Capulet, who is taken to overcome a wide barrier here.

Hygain Winners Choice BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Ballarat Value Bet - Race 8 No. 15 Seindeel

The son of Dundeel showed up well in four starts last prep. including when breaking his maiden over 1300m at Seymour in December at start twp.

Two outings at Flemington followed, including when beaten just under two lengths in a 1400m Benchmark 70 handicap next time.

The three-year-old has shown up well in two starts since returning from a spell, having ended his last prep with a fifth-of-seven over 1600m at Flemington in January.

The first of those efforts saw the youngster beaten just under two-and-a-half-lengths in a Benchmark 64 handicap over 1200m at Pakenham at the end of last month.

That effort came on a soft 5 surface and the switch to a soft 7 track appeared to suit, with Seindeel racing on the pace prior to saluting over 1415m at Sale earlier this month.

That Sale success came in a Benchmark 64 handicap and racing on a heavy track for the first time, he looks value to follow up.

Ballarat Best Bet - Race 9 No. 11 Star Rapper

The four-year-old showed good form in his first prep, including when debuting with a two-length second over 1200m at Pakenham in January.

Star Rapper was then runner-up when stepped up to metro level racing for a 1000m maiden at Moonee Valley the following month.

The son of Zoustar faced just four rivals, but he acquitted himself well that day when finishing four-and-a-half-lengths behind a favourite who made all the running.

Nick Ryan’s representative was spelled following that Moonee Valley effort, with both of those efforts coming on a Good 4 surface.

He had jump-out’s ahead of his return to action at Wangaratta and the switch to a Heavy 10 track appeared to suit that day.

While that form hasn’t been tested, Star Rapper looks ready for the step up in grade on Sunday.
