Head to Head

Australia hold an unassailable 3-0 lead in this Ashes series. The 3rd Test in Melbourne on Boxing Day saw the hosts win by an innings and 14 runs.

England’s History at the SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground)

Since the first Test between Australia and England at the SCG in 1882, Australia have won 27, lost 22 and drawn just seven times.

England's last win at the SCG came in 2011 but they have lost heavily in the two Test matches since. In 2014 Australia won by 281 runs and in 2018 the hosts crushed the visitors by an innings and 123 runs.

Australia Form

Australia have been completely dominant in this series and hold a 3-0 lead currently. They will however been very keen on securing a 5-0 whitewash with England seemingly down in the dumps.

In the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne the Aussies bowled first, dismissing England for 185 runs. Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins took three wickets each.

Marcus Harris lead the response with 75 runs and while no other player reached 50, the hosts went on to score 267 runs. Scott Boland then bowled one of the best debut spells ever, taking 6-7 as England were bowled out for a measly 68 runs.

Australia Team News

The hosts often play two spinners in Sydney which could bring Mitchell Swepson into the reckoning.

Travis Head has tested positive for COVID-19. Usman Khawaja is likely to feature in the middle order.

England Form

England have been nothing short of shocking in the opening three Test matches. They have lost all three comfortably with the batsmen failing time and again.

In Melbourne Joe Root scored 50 runs but no one else passed the 35 run mark in a 185-run total. James Anderson took 4-33 as England dismissed the Aussies for 267 runs, a very good effort overall.

The bowlers gave England a sniff but they needed a big total. Root scored 28 runs but 11 was the next highest as they crumbled to 68 all out on a pitch that wasn’t that poor for batting.

England Team News

England have tried it all but nothing seems to be working. Only Joe Root has managed to score consistently throughout the series.

Head coach Chris Silverwood will miss the Test after testing positive for COVID.
