The France vs Spain World Cup semi-final promises fireworks, with France's dynamic attack facing Spain's disciplined midfield and formidable defence. Both sides come in with impressive records, but Spain's unbeaten run and strong head-to-head history may prove decisive. The match is expected to end level after 90 minutes, with Spain tipped to qualify for the final—potentially thanks to a key contribution from Lamine Yamal. France vs Spain World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

An unmissable World Cup semi-final showdown awaits as France and Spain square off at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Tuesday.

It doesn't get much bigger than this, with France's blistering attack coming up against Spain's brilliant midfield and rock-solid defence. We've got the electric front four of France - led by Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise - locking horns with rising superstar Lamine Yamal and veteran midfielder Rodri, who is slowly getting back to his best after injury.

And then there's the managers. Didier Deschamps captained France to World Cup glory in 1998 and is managing a record 26th game at this competition in this game, while Luis de la Fuentes has been a revelation since taking charge of Spain, guiding the nation on a current 36-game unbeaten run that has seen them win 12 and draw one of their last 13 major tournament outings - including beating France on the way to Euro 2024 glory.

Spain were slightly favoured pre-tournament over France in the Australian bookmaker betting odds, but Les Bleus have flicked the switch after a series of blistering performances on their way to the final four. It's been a flawless campaign from France - they've banged in 16 goals, taking maximum points from the group stage and keeping a clean sheet in all three knockout stage matches. Spain meanwhile started slowly, but have gradually built their way into the tournament, conceding just one goal in their six games and seeing off Portugal and Belgium back-to-back.

This has all the makings of a classic and hopefully it will deliver. Despite Spain's outstanding defence, it's tough to see France not finding the back of the net here. At the same time, Spain have proven pedigree in this H2H in recent meetings, winning seven of the last 10, while the most-recent encounter at the 2025 Nations League featured a whopping nine goals.

Both teams to score is the main play for this one, while Spain were my pre-tournament pick and I'm not going to go against them now - their midfield can control the game over Rabiot and Kone, while Yamal should raise his level for this blockbuster after some relatively quiet performances after injury. France's weakness is through the middle of the park and on the flanks and Spain have the players to exploit this - especially if Nico Williams can make an impact off the bench.

I'm taking Spain to qualify for the final, but a draw at the end of 90 minutes also appeals, with six of the last seven meetings either ending all-square or decided by a one-goal margin - this should be another close battle. Yamal is yet to score at this World Cup, but he's found the back of the net in his last two appearances against Les Bleus and the stage is set for the teenage sensation to lift.
  • France have scored 16 goals in their six games this World Cup
  • BTTS has landed in the last three meetings for a total of 15 goals
  • Spain are unbeaten in their last 36 games - one shy of Italy's all-time record of 37
  • Luis de la Fuente has won 12 of his 13 major tournament games
  • Spain have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the teams
  • Six of the last seven meetings have been decided by a one-goal margin or ended in a draw
  • Lamine Yamal has scored three goals in his last two outings vs France

France vs Spain Head To Head

As mentioned, Spain have dominated this matchup in recent times, winning seven of the last 10 encounters - including a 2-1 triumph in the Euro 2024 semi-finals and 5-4 victory in the final four of the 2025 Nations League, where they went ahead 4-0 before France mounted a late fightback.

France Form Analysis

France couldn't have been more dominant or impressive in advancing to the semi-finals for the third straight World Cup - and now, Les Bleus are aiming to become just the third team in history to reach three World Cup finals on the trot after Brazil and Germany.

Didier Deschamps' side were untroubled in one of the tougher groups, easing past Senegal and Iraq before beating a second-string Norway side to take a maximum nine points.

Three clean sheets have followed in the knockout phase, with France thumping Sweden before surviving the dark arts of Paraguay by a 1-0 score, with Kylian Mbappe scoring the decisive penalty.

France were then far too strong for Morocco in the quarter-finals, prevailing 2-0. Mbappe missed a penalty but made up for it with a stunning curling strike to break the deadlock before Ousmane Dembele doubled their advantage.

France Team News

Mbappe is level with Lionel Messi with eight goals at this World Cup, but he's also registered three assists - including for Dembele against Morocco.

Speaking of assists, Michael Olise already has five at this World Cup and the Bayern Munich star has emerged as a genuine superstar of the game this past year. One of either Desire Doue or Bradley Barcola will complete the electric front four for France.

Aurelien Tchouameni is battling a thigh injury, so Manu Kone should partner Rabiot in midfield once again here.

Spain Form Analysis

Spain have advanced into their first World Cup semi-final since winning their only trophy in 2010, but they haven't been at their blistering best.

La Roja opened with a 0-0 stalemate against Cape Verde, but in hindsight, that wasn't such a poor result, with Spain bouncing back to crush Saudi Arabia before knockout out Uruguay to top their group.

Luis de la Fuente's side then produced a good performance to cruise past Austria 3-0 before edging out Iberian rivals Portugal 1-0 in the R16 courtesy of a late strike from Mikel Merino.

Merino has emerged as a super sub at both club and international level over the last couple of years and the Arsenal man was again on hand to sink Belgium in the quarter-finals. Spain conceded their first goal of the tournament, but never looked in any serious danger as they registered a 2-1 triumph, extending their unbeaten record to 36 games.

Spain Team News

Mikel Oyarzabal has scored four goals at this World Cup and the Real Sociedad man should lead the line again - but the likes of Feran Torres and a fit-again Nico Williams are pressing for spots in the final third. Lamine Yamal will get his chance to impress on the right flank.

Pedri is a chance to come back into midfield alongside stalwart Rodri, but Dani Olmo and Fabian Ruiz are also in contention to start.

A back four of Pedro Porro, Pau Cubarsi, Aymeric Laporte and Marc Cucurella, along with goalkeeper Unai Simon, have only leaked one goal for the tournament and all should retain their places here.
