Wawrinka made his first appearance at this tournament all the way back in 2003 and he's about to play his last 23 years later, celebrating an incredible career in front of his adoring Swiss fans. The 41-year-old will retire at the end of the season in Basel and will hope to get one last Grand Slam appearance at the US Open after impressing in a four-set Wimbledon defeat to Matteo Berrettini.
Obviously Wawrinka is still capable of some great tennis, but his consistency and body are holding him back in the twilight of his career - so unfortunately, I just can't see him getting over the line here.
Faria is in career-best form after a brief injury setback earlier this year and comes into this clash after making the third round of Roland Garros and second round of Wimbledon after qualifying. The Portuguese player loves a scrap and should relish the atmosphere, which will provide added motivation that can sometimes lack in these clay 250 events after Wimbledon.
I'm taking Faria to cover a small -2.5 games line in victory, while there's always a chance Wawrinka can snatch a set, but fade as the match goes the distance, so a small stake also on Faria in three.

The 22-year-old qualified and made the third round of Roland Garros, beating Grigor Dimitrov, Denis Shapovalov and Jan-Lennard Struff along the way before going down in five sets to Frances Tiafoe.
Faria again qualified at Wimbledon, advancing to the second round before a four-set loss to Eastbourne champion Zizou Bergs.

The 41-year-old enjoyed a great Aussie summer, playing some brilliant matches in the United Cup before making the third round of the Australian Open, taking a set off Taylor Fritz.
Wawrinka has struggled to reproduce that sort of level throughout the year, but he was able to play some spectacular tennis at stages during four-set opening round defeats to Jesper De Jong and Matteo Berrrettini at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Wawrinka will be hoping for one last win in Gstaad, a tournament he started playing over two decades ago. He doesn't have a great record at the event, going beyond the quarter-finals just twice in 13 previous appearances.
