The 2026 All Aged Stakes features an exciting field, including previous winners such as Jimmysstar and Giga Kick. Jimmysstar is looking for another win at 1400m after a consistent 2025 season with multiple Group 1 victories. Giga Kick, known for its 2023 win in this race, has recently shown impressive form. Although Angel Capital still seeks a Group 1 win, it has placed strongly in recent outings. Bivouac and Fangirl add depth as experienced competitors, while the race promises outstanding performances from both seasoned and emerging talent.

While he hasn’t hit his straps in two 2026 appearances, 1400m could be what Jimmysstar (barrier 12) is looking for third-up as he steps to seven furlongs in the All Aged Stakes, a race the son of Per Incanto won last year.

The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper was one of the more consistent top-liners throughout 2025, recording three Group 1 victories over the calendar year.

Giga Kick (barrier 7) is another prior winner of the All Aged Stakes, having taken out this 1400m feature as a three-year-old back in 2023.

The gelding had some excuses first-up in the Black Caviar Lightning and has caught the eye in his last two attempts, including a runner-up finish in the TJ Smith Stakes on April 4.

Angel Capital (barrier 4) is still searching for a first Group 1 win, but the colt has improved since an Expressway Stakes return flop on February 14, with Group 1 placings at his last two appearances.

The latest was a 1200m second in the William Reid Stakes behind an in-form Jigsaw.

Beiwacht (barrier 2) was honest last start in the George Ryder Stakes and has since won a tick-over trial, with the Golden Rose winner one of the main on-speed influences in this field.

Fangirl (barrier 8) is an interesting returner, with the four-time Group 1 winner boasting strong fresh statistics and likely to get her preferred conditions on good ground.

Adding further depth to the race is Briasa (barrier 10), the 2025 TJ Smith Stakes winner who finished fourth in last year’s All Aged Stakes as favourite, while Magic Time (barrier 11) won this race in 2024 and is a proven weight-for-age galloper who was Group 1 placed twice last spring.

Another layer of intrigue comes through Half Yours (barrier 5), the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup winner from last year, who has completed two Flemington jump-outs leading into this return and won the latest on April 2.

All Aged Stakes Winners

The All Aged Stakes, first run in 1865, holds a rich place in Australian racing history with an honour roll featuring some of the sport’s most celebrated champions.

Among its early winners are icons such as Carbine, Wakeful and Ajax—the only horse to claim the race three times—alongside Bernborough and Tulloch, while modern greats like Rough Habit, Sunline and Atlantic Jewel have also left their mark.

Originally contested over a mile at Royal Randwick, the Group 1 was reduced to 1400 metres in 2004 to better suit high-class performers backing up from the TJ Smith Stakes and reflect the shift toward elite short-course racing.

Recent renewals have been taken out by top-level gallopers, with Giga Kick (2023), Magic Time (2024) and Jimmysstar (2025) continuing that trend.
