Jimmysstar’s younger brother In'Kantosstar has taken the first step towards building a reputation of his own, breaking through with an impressive maiden victory at Ballarat Synthetic on Tuesday.

A full brother to three-time Group 1 winner Jimmysstar, the Ciaron Maher-trained four-year-old justified his short quote with a dominant performance in the 1200m Manhari Maiden Plate.

Settling just behind the leading few pairs for Ethan Brown, In'Kantosstar travelled strongly before being presented to make his run approaching the home straight.

Once Brown asked him to quicken, the son of Per Incanto put the race away swiftly, opening up to score by 2.75 lengths and suggest there should be considerably better races ahead.

The victory came after In'Kantosstar produced an eye-catching debut when runner-up at Moe, where he endured an unlucky passage before charging home to finish second.

There was also a familiar combination involved in Tuesday’s success, with Brown having partnered Jimmysstar in each of his four most recent victories.

That sequence includes his three Group 1 triumphs, further strengthening the connection between the emerging In'Kantosstar and his accomplished older brother.

In'Kantosstar was secured for $260,000 by Group 1 Bloodstock at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Little Avondale Stud.

The purchase came before Jimmysstar had reached the heights he has since, with his older brother still yet to win at Group level when In'Kantosstar went through the sales ring.

Like Jimmysstar, In'Kantosstar is by Per Incanto out of the Zed mare Anniesstar and is trained by Maher, giving the four-year-old plenty to live up to as he begins to build his own record.

Anniesstar was a stakes winner herself, claiming a Listed event over 2100m in New Zealand, while she has also produced Charms Star, a Group 3-winning full sister to Jimmysstar and In'Kantosstar.

Tuesday’s performance provided an encouraging glimpse that another member of the family could be capable of progressing well beyond maiden grade.
