Doncaster Mile star Sheza Alibi has taken another step towards her spring return, winning her Pakenham jump-out on Tuesday as Peter Moody continues to build the four-year-old towards the Golden Eagle.

The two-time Group 1 winner has not raced since her dominant Doncaster Mile victory at Randwick in April, where she defeated Autumn Boy by more than four lengths, and Tuesday’s hit-out was another important step in her preparation.

Speaking to Racing.com after the jump-out, Moody was pleased with how Sheza Alibi handled the soft ground and, more importantly, how quickly she recovered from the effort.

“I was really pleased with the way she recovered. By the time she’d got back to us in the enclosure, she wouldn’t have blown a match out, which was very pleasing.”

Moody believes Sheza Alibi has taken another step forward from her first jump-out and says she is now close to being ready to return to the races.

“She pulled up and had a little blow after that first one, and this morning she was much cleaner in the wind.

“I think she’s ready to go now.”

A first-up target is yet to be confirmed, although the Memsie Stakes remains the most logical option should Moody and co-trainer Katherine Coleman elect to keep her in Melbourne.

“There’s a race for her every Saturday. The logical one here at home is the Memsie, and then you’ve got Sydney as well, so we’ll keep an open mind.”

The $10 million Golden Eagle remains the major spring objective, a target that has been on the agenda since Sheza Alibi was sent for a break following her Doncaster triumph.

Sheza Alibi has won seven of her 10 starts, including two at Group 1 level, and has earned more than $3.7 million in prizemoney. The daughter of Saxon Warrior is owned by Central Queensland cattleman Fred Noffke, who purchased her as a weanling for just $10,000 through Inglis Digital in June 2023.
