Parramatta Eels vs North Queensland Cowboys NRL Tips - Eels to blitz hapless Cowboys at CommBank

The Parramatta Eels are predicted to continue their impressive record against the North Queensland Cowboys at CommBank Stadium. Experts foresee a comfortable win for the Eels, potentially by a margin of 13 or more points, due to the Cowboys' struggling defense. Despite the return of several Cowboys players, their recent form has been poor. Mitch Moses' return is pivotal for the Eels, who are looking to capitalize on this opportunity and move out of wooden spoon contention in the NRL standings.

Parramatta Eels vs North Queensland Cowboys, NRL Round 23 - Expert Prediction

Parramatta have won all three previous meetings with the Cowboys at CommBank, and with Mitch Moses back and North Queensland seemingly having run their race for 2025, I'm backing the hosts to rack up the points and put on a show in front of their home fans here.

The Cowboys have been horrendous this season and produced an extremely poor performance in their most-recent loss to the Sharks. They have the worst defence in the NRL, leaking an average of 29.75 points per game, while from the outside looking in, it looks as if some of their players have thrown in the towel for this season. For the amount of talent and Origin star-power in their ranks, the Cowboys should be doing far better, but apart from Tom Dearden, none of them are stepping up right now.

The Eels have been alright lately - they beat the Broncos at Suncorp and pushed Melbourne all the way last week. With Moses firing, I expect Parra to cruise to victory in a high-scoring affair. Josh Addo-Carr is also great value for 2+ tries - he's got a great record in this matchup and the Cowboys have been leaking doubles to opposition wingers in their recent games.

  • Eels have won five of the last seven meetings between the teams
  • Eels are 3-0 vs Cowboys at CommBank
  • Cowboys have lost three of their four games in Sydney this season
  • Cowboys have lost seven of their last nine games overall
  • Six of the Cowboys' last eight defeats have been by 13+ margins
  • Three of the Eels' last four wins have been by 13+ margins
  • Cowboys have seen Over 46.5 points in seven of their last 10 games
  • Josh Addo-Carr has scored 11 tries in his last 11 games vs Cowboys
  • Cowboys have allowed 2+ tries to opposition wingers in their last three games

Head To Head

This will be the first meeting between the teams this season. The Eels won their most-recent clash 27-20 in Round 6 of 2024 - and that was without Moses.

Parramatta Eels Form Analysis

Without doubt the unavailability of Mitch Moses for large chunks of the season has derailed Parramatta's year - the superstar halfback is instrumental to his team's success and fans will be hoping he has a clean bill of health in 2026.

But, as for right now, the Eels can play spoiler to many sides heading into the finals, and in this encounter, they have the opportunity to register just their seventh win of the year and move themselves out of wooden spoon territory.

The Eels have been in solid form over the last fortnight - they stunned the Broncos at Suncorp in a brilliant 22-20 victory before pushing the Storm all the way last week in a narrow 16-10 defeat.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Kelma Tuilagi joins the bench after returning from suspension through NSW Cup last week, but Sam Tuivaiti is out for the remainder of the year with a knee injury.

Jordan Samrani comes into the centres in place of Sean Russell (broken hand), while Dylan Walker has been named to start at lock, pushing Luca Moretti to the pine.

North Queensland Cowboys Form Analysis

What on earth has happened to the Cowboys? They went on a four-game winning streak at the start of the season, beating the likes of Canberra and Penrith. However, their form has fallen off a cliff and they are out of the finals race and could easily pick up the wooden spoon if they don't get their act straight soon.

North Queensland have lost seven of their last nine games and have the worst defence in the competition, leaking 30+ points in six of their last nine games - including a last-start 32-12 loss to the Sharks.

The Cowboys were down 26-0 at half-time in that game and were lucky Cronulla decided to take their foot off the gas, because it could have gotten very ugly. Todd Payten will be under immense pressure to retain his job at season's end if the Cowboys don't turn their fortunes around over the next month.

North Queensland Cowboys Team News

Jason Taumalolo (calf), Jake Clifford (quad), Viliami Vailea (foot) and Thomas Mikaele (knee) all return for the Cowboys this week.

Robert Derby and Griffin Neame are out with knee and shoulder injuries respectively.

Verdict

The Cowboys were atrocious last week and they're 0-3 vs the Eels at CommBank - this could get ugly.

Backing Parra for a big 13+ victory in a game with plenty of points, while the Fox offers great value to cross for a double.
