Wyong hosts a feature-rich Friday race meeting on September 4, headlined by the Wyong Cup and Mona Lisa Stakes. Our key betting tips are Matusalem to win the Wyong Cup, Silencio Porfavor as a strong play in the BM68, Iceford at an appealing each-way value, and Snitzel Dancer as a lively roughie in the Mona Lisa Stakes. With decent form and value picks, the key recommendation is to follow these runners for strong chances across the card. Rail movements and surface upgrades may also add excitement to the meeting.

After being out three metres last Sunday, the rail returns to the true position, while an upgrade is possible from the current Soft 5 rating.

Wyong Tips September 4

Doylo Lifestyle Group Springtime BM68 Tips (Race 5)

Wyong Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Silencio Porfavor

Matthew Smith has some smart horses in work at present, with recent winners Queen's Gamble and Aethelwulf both looking capable of progressing further.

The stable also prepared Group 3 winner Prima Bella at Randwick on August 22, while stable star Idle Flyer resumed well in the Winx Stakes on the same card, and Silencio Porfavor arrives here as another runner racing in good form.

He drops back to provincial Benchmark 68 company after consecutive third-place finishes at metropolitan Benchmark 72 level, including his latest at Warwick Farm when set a task behind smart winner Heroic Deed and finishing more than two lengths clear of early favourite Olivia Twist.

Prior to that he was third in a leader-dominated event won by Clear Proof, who franked the form with a Midway victory next start, while Silencio Porfavor had earlier proven his 1200m credentials with a Benchmark 64 win at Newcastle on June 27.

He brings the strongest recent exposed form into this field and, with the drop in grade, the $5 available in early betting looks generous enough.

Wyong Leagues Group Wyong Cup Tips (Race 6)

Wyong Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Matusalem

James McDonald and Chris Waller have combined for four Wyong Gold Cup victories, including last year's winner Saltcoats, and they look well placed to add another with Matusalem.

The Autumn Sun gelding has built steadily through his winter preparation, closing with the fastest final 200m when resuming over 1400m in the Winter Stakes before finishing second over 1800m a month later behind Eliyass, who he meets again here.

He improved again in the Premier's Cup on August 22, where Boniface was an overdue winner, with Matusalem particularly strong through the line and recording the fastest closing sectionals of the race.

That performance has now given him a 2000m run under the belt, while all six of his career wins have come on Good tracks, making the prospect of a firmer surface another positive.

With each run this preparation pointing towards a peak performance, Matusalem looks ideally placed to claim a second Listed victory.

Domeland Mona Lisa Stakes Tips (Race 7)

Wyong Roughie - Race 7 No. 2 Snitzel Dancer

The Ryan and Alexiou stable has long been noted for producing horses ready to fire fresh, and all three of their August winners came first-up.

Two of those victories came at Listed level, including Just Party, who resumed over a similar trip to this when winning the Goulburn Cup on August 23, while Snitzel Dancer has already shown she can perform at stakes level herself.

A debut winner early last season, she improved sharply once blinkers were applied during her second preparation, producing a big Class 1 victory at Hawkesbury before later defeating previously unbeaten Group 3 winner Plaintiff at Group 3 level during The Championships.

Her Queensland Guineas failure before a spell can be forgiven after she failed to handle the Heavy ground, and resuming over 1350m gives her every chance to make an impact fresh.

Snitzel Dancer arrives off two August trials and, although the latest was workmanlike, she was good through the line, while Kerrin McEvoy has ridden her in both heats and was also aboard for her Group 3 triumph.

Carlton Dry 3.5 Provincial 5yo&p BM64 Tips (Race 8)

Wyong Value Bet - Race 8 No. 1 Iceford

The Beer and Carpenter yard places its horses well in these lower benchmark races and heads here in solid form, with four winners and three placegetters from its past 15 starters.

Iceford looks to have found a suitable second-up assignment after finishing runner-up in a 1500m Class 1 on August 15, when he encountered restricted room at a key stage before going down by a length to the hard-fit and in-form Orange Tsunami.

The Irish import had prepared for that return with two winter trials, while his Australian debut back in March also had merit despite the margin, after he was shuffled back and forced to chase from the rear on a testing surface that did not suit.

A big, strong type with a nice action, Iceford should take plenty of improvement from his latest run and can settle much closer here under 2kg claimer Jet Newman.

The extra 100m looks another positive and, with further improvement likely as the preparation progresses, Iceford appeals at an each-way price in a race that looks well within his reach.
