Vale Max Trenorden Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Northam Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 6 Blue Sparx

It has been an excellent winter and calendar year for Lucy Fiore, who could bring up her 100th winner for 2026 before partnering Blue Sparx on Thursday.

Fiore has ridden the three-year-old in his past two starts, including his maiden breakthrough at Belmont on August 19 when he saluted as our best bet of that Perth meeting.

There were also good form references around his previous two third-place finishes, while Blue Sparx has improved each time he has gone to the races after looking green at his first two appearances.

He now steps out of maiden company, but this is not an overly deep race, with Don't Wink the obvious danger and perhaps a saver after back-to-back seconds, while she was a third-up winner last preparation following a drop from Listed company.

Don't Wink does have a wide draw to overcome, whereas Blue Sparx should enjoy an economical run in transit and there is no reason he cannot continue progressing.

Northam Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Saisoku

A big, strong type who was always going to take time to mature, Saisoku has started to put things together as an early four-year-old with back-to-back seconds to open the campaign.

There has been solid form through those runs, including his August 13 effort at Bunbury when he pushed Phat Chaps, who then backed up that victory with a runner-up finish at Belmont last Saturday.

Those references explained the odds-on quote at Northam last Thursday, but Saisoku was his own worst enemy when laying in through the straight and failing to find the faster lanes wider out.

He still managed to finish second and trainer Stefan Vahala now applies a near-side bubble cheeker in an attempt to improve his manners.

Backing up from Heavy ground is a query, but this race is no harder and, with a better price available than last week, Saisoku is worth another chance.

Northam Value Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Bondi Star

Summer Dixon operates with a small team but has been getting strong results, including a winning double at Belmont on August 19.

Bondi Star is a query given how her previous campaign ended, but she has enough ability to measure up here if returning near her best and a generous each-way quote is available for the risk.

She did not look the same horse after a strong second-up victory, getting involved in a couple of speed battles and failing to settle before being spelled following a June 10 defeat at Belmont.

There was good form through her April 27 Class 1 win at Pinjarra when she defeated Effortlessly, who won at Saturday level two starts later before finishing a respectable sixth-of-13 in the Belmont Oaks.

Although there is no public lead-up work ahead of this return, Bondi Star has shown she can perform early in a preparation, with a luckless fresh outing when resuming last campaign, while Clint Johnston-Porter has barrier four at his disposal here.
