Big Event Picnic Tables Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Mornington Value Bet - Race 5 No. 7 Bella Cinque

Mornington is notoriously a horses-for-courses track, and local mare Bella Cinque has a win and a second from three starts on her home circuit.

The daughter of Magnus has been freshened since a Benchmark 70 attempt at Sandown Hillside on July 15, where she failed to fire on a Heavy 9 surface, so the prospect of firmer ground here is a positive.

This represents a decent drop back to country Benchmark 62 level for the seven-year-old, who returned with a solid fourth-of-eight over 1000m on June 10 before tackling stronger company.

Bella Cinque was competitive in much better races throughout 2025, including a Caulfield Heath victory and subsequent metropolitan placings, one of those behind handy Godolphin sprinter Tonkin.

Sam Kennedy takes 3kg off and comes into the ride after an excellent August, when his nine winners came at a strike rate of 23% and produced an ROI of better than 300%.

Mornington Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Foix

Still lightly raced for a seven-year-old, Foix has shown enough ability for Ciaron Maher to persist with despite having just one win to his name.

That victory came third-up over a similar journey at Cranbourne during his second preparation, while he was also unlucky at Bendigo before a lengthy break and subsequent knee surgery.

After failing in his only start of 2025 at Bendigo in September, his two runs this winter suggest he may have turned a corner, with his 1300m Bendigo return better than it reads after settling at the rear before warming up late.

Foix then improved when fifth at Sale on August 21 after striking traffic from the back, and both his July trial win and previous third-up success show he is capable of settling much closer to the speed.

Now up to a more suitable distance with two runs under his belt, a more positive ride can be expected from Thomas Stockdale, who is striking at 26.7% for Maher this season and better than 20% with the stable over the past 12 months.

Mornington Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Cattle Camp

Any progression from Cattle Camp's encouraging first campaign could see him measure up in metropolitan company this season, making this country Benchmark 62 a very suitable starting point.

The Moody and Coleman-trained gelding was last seen narrowly beaten in an August 18 Traralgon jump-out won by Group 3 winner Snow Mercy, who franked that hit-out with a first-up Benchmark 78 victory at Sandown on Wednesday.

Cattle Camp was a stylish debut winner at Sale on April 8, coming from off the speed and recording the meeting's fastest closing sectionals, while both the runner-up and third from that race have since become multiple winners.

There was also merit in his Caulfield Heath third on April 29 when ridden conservatively after jumping well, with runner-up Milos Filos later placing at Flemington before winning at Benchmark 78 level.

With even luck from a low draw and natural improvement to come from his first preparation, Cattle Camp looks well placed to resume with a victory.
