DDH1 Drilling Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Taree Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 3 Fratianno

Although a long-time maiden, many of Fratianno’s opportunities came when prepared by the Munce stable and campaigning on the Queensland provincial and metropolitan circuits.

He has placed in four of five starts since switching to the New South Wales country circuit, with the pick of those efforts coming when runner-up on stable debut for Colt Prosser at Port Macquarie on July 31.

Fratianno worked forward to settle outside the leader and ultimately gave Miss Trump a perfect tow into the race, but while the winner and favourite looked to have the contest in her keeping a long way out, he never gave up in second and held a margin of just over two lengths on the next runner home.

It is also worth noting that Miss Trump’s only previous failure came at Group 2 level during the Sydney Autumn Carnival, while second elect Cheating Lilybet comes through the same Port Macquarie race and finished almost four lengths behind Fratianno.

His trial leading into that fresh assignment was encouraging and keeping him around these shorter trips may be the key.

Dean Mills Plumbing Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Taree Roughie - Race 2 No. 13 La Seeker

A notable market drifter ahead of her debut at Muswellbrook on July 16, La Seeker was never in contention in that first race-day appearance after being allowed to find her feet at the rear from a wide draw over 1000m.

That distance was also on the short side and, under the circumstances, she ran fairly enough with William Stanley in the saddle, who retains the ride for Friday’s assignment.

Stanley was also aboard in her winter trial, where the filly showed there was some ability present, with her late work under a hold particularly encouraging in that first public hit-out.

The rise in distance is suitable for the three-year-old and she also has a kinder draw, although the main query is whether she has the tactical speed to make use of gate two after being a little slow away in an 845m Wyong trial on July 8.

This maiden looks wide open and, with more in her favour along with natural improvement expected at start two, La Seeker could be a sharp improver at a big each-way price.

Mackies Concrete Pumping Class 2 Tips (Race 5)

Taree Value Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Pelosa

Pelosa found herself exactly where you did not want to be during the Grafton Carnival, initially going back, wide and without cover before attempting to find a tow into the race, only to be completely unsuited by the track pattern.

A significant market drift ahead of that stable debut for the Sally Taylor yard also suggested intent may not have been there, but she could hardly have done any more under the circumstances in a Class 1 that has already produced two subsequent winners.

Her July 5 trial leading into that first-up run was encouraging with Grady Spokes aboard, and the apprentice retains the ride for Friday’s assignment.

The rise to 1400m should suit the daughter of Russian Revolution, whose last trial over this distance resulted in a narrow runner-up finish in a metropolitan BM64.

Although she never progressed for the Charlton stable, Pelosa remains lightly raced and is capable of picking off a few on the country circuit, with this setup looking far more suitable from a better draw behind likely leaders and favourites I Am Steffi and Sirsa Nuwa, who are both on trial at the trip.

Hopkins Livermore Cup Tips (Race 7)

Taree Best Bet - Race 7 No. 5 Show Em' Howl

A talented galloper from the Robert Agnew yard, Show Em' Howl is capable of producing a big finish when conditions allow.

He was a Taree maiden winner during his second campaign before going back-to-back at Port Macquarie, while two further victories followed last season, highlighted by a Country Qualifier success where he broke the 1200m track record.

That preparation did fall away late, although there were some aggressive placements along the way, including a Group 3 assignment at Newcastle, and he's building nicely into this winter campaign.

The Grafton return was a pass mark and, second-up at Randwick-Kensington, Show Em' Howl worked home strongly in restricted room for sixth while recording the fastest final 200m of that BM72.

This is a nice placement with 3kg less in a thinner country field, where his threats are Just In Time, who has been beaten a combined 27.5 lengths from two starts this prep, Pound Of Salt and Zaru, both of whom are in decent droughts and drawn out, while Savvy Rocker has failed to win in seven previous attempts at Taree.
