Pakenham Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Legatus
The son of Preferment demonstrated good form earlier this prep including when winning by a narrow margin over 2400m at Moe three starts back.
The six-year-old contested a 2400m Benchmark 58 handicap on a good 3 track on that occasion finishing strongly to get the better of a next start winner by a narrow margin.
The selection duly completed a double when again racing on a sound surface stepped up to 2720m for a Benchmark 64 handicap at Werribee.
The second home on that occasion went on to score in a metro contest at Moonee Valley next time with the pick himself tested at metro level at the same venue at the end of last month.
Ultimately the pick found racing at Benchmark 70 level in the city too much jumping at $31 prior to finishing ninth over 3000m.
The drop in grade is a positive here and with the John Moloney stable in great form at present he looks capable of recording his third win of the season.

The gelding had a number of outings in jumpouts prior to making his racecourse debut at Bendigo in early October.

The four-year-old broke through for his first victory when racing over 1600m on the synthetic track here in July.
The pick came home over a length clear of his nearest pursuer that day and ended that prep with a three-length second in a Benchmark 58 handicap on the same surface here the following month.
The gelding has made just one start this time around delivering a highly creditable third in a 1200m Benchmark 58 handicap here at the start of the month.
The selection was making his first appearance over 1200m since October 2023 and he delivered a solid effort on his comeback run.
Improvement is expected racing second up while the step up to 1400m is a further positive with promising apprentice Logan Bates taking a valuable two-kilograms off his back.
The gelding is a versatile type with regard to tactics and with barrier nine unlikely to pose an issue he looks value to register a second-up success.
