He arguably should've on debut last October, where a wide barrier proved costly and Superfluous ran the fastest last 400m and 200m of that Northam event.
The Simon Miller-trained gelding was spelled after that spring outing and he opened his second campaign with a first-up victory over this distance at Belmont.
There was depth to that February 19 maiden, with Masterly (won two of his next three) among the beaten brigade and Superfluous then contested three black-type races.

She's lightly raced for a rising five-year-old, with just eight starts completed over three preps to date and Lifeisbutadream caught the eye late in a May 12 trial at Ascot.
The daughter of Astern hasn't been as effective in four previous tries at 1200m, but she has two wins, a second and a fourth from four attempts over 1000m.
The mare broke through over this track/trip in her second campaign before completing a double via a Belmont Class 3, while she was thereabouts in three summer appearances.

The Michael Grantham stable is flying, with 14 winners recorded in June at a strike-rate of 24% and nine of those victories have come from his last 22 starters.
Grantham prepares Lillian, who was a New Zealand debut winner on December 18 before being purchased by Bob Peters and getting to 1600m looks suitable third-up.
She did enough fresh before recording the second-fastest last 200m of a Pinjarra Class 1 and along with drawing kinder here, Lillian also carries 3kg less.
