Murray Bridge Tips September 17
Thomas Farms Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)
Murray Bridge Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 3 Raramuri
Raramuri has shown ability in four starts to date, placing in three of them. The exception came when finishing fourth, beaten more than five lengths on a Soft 5 over 1400m at this venue in July.
That effort marked his final outing for Peter Hardacre before joining the Shayne & Chelsea Cahill stable. He debuted for the new yard at Mildura earlier this month, where he ran on well from midfield to be beaten just over a length in a 1409m maiden on good ground.
The son of Dundeel should appreciate the step up to 1600m, with barrier eight no concern given his racing pattern.
Jake Toeroek takes the ride for the first time, and the gelding looks ready to break through in the opener.
Thomas Farms Benchmark 56 Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 3 No. 7 Refreshing
Refreshing hasn’t won since May last year but has shown glimpses of form this prep, including a narrow second in a Benchmark 64 over 1200m at this track early last month.
She started big odds that day on a wet track and backed it up with a respectable sixth in metro grade at Morphettville the following week.
Her best recent run came at Morphettville Parks earlier this month, where she finished a length-and-a-half fourth when dropping back to 1000m.
With Rochelle Milnes taking the ride and a 3kg claim, Grant Young’s mare looks capable of rolling forward from barrier nine and proving a knockout hope.
Fred Vella Tyre & Crash Repair Class One Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Murray Bridge Value Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Murph
Murph broke his maiden at this track in April, getting home from off the pace to score narrowly over 1100m on good ground. He followed that with a strong second in Benchmark 60 grade here, shaping as though more ground would suit.
Spelled after that prep, the son of Magnus returned with a fair sixth at Morphettville Parks in a Benchmark 66 last month, beaten just over three lengths on a heavy surface.
That run should bring him on, and this shapes as an easier assignment second-up.
Back on firmer ground and with fitness improvement, he looks well placed to record win number two.
Carlton Draught Benchmark 56 Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Murray Bridge Best Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Hypernova
Hypernova has been consistent this prep, placing in his first five runs before finishing eighth at Morphettville last start. He was still competitive there, beaten less than two-and-a-half lengths from a wide draw in Benchmark 64 grade.
Earlier this month he was an impressive winner over this track and trip in Class 1 company, putting a clear margin on his rivals. That followed a good second in Class 2 grade at Morphettville.
Dropping back in grade here is a clear positive, and apprentice Sophie Potter’s 3kg claim brings him in well at the weights.
Barrier 12 isn’t ideal, but he has shown the ability to handle wide alleys before, and he looks very hard to beat back at this level.
