Ipswich Tips August 14

Fertpro Benchmark 65 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Chassagne

Although Chassagne has been well held in both starts since joining Todd Pollard, there were still some positives to take from her latest sixth at the Sunshine Coast earlier this month.

Racing over 1800m, the mare was beaten nearly seven lengths in a Class 4 handicap, but the rise in distance looks suitable given much of her best form has come around this trip.

The seven-year-old has raced on wet surfaces in both starts this preparation, so the switch to a forecast sound surface is another positive.

Barrier seven should not pose too much of an issue, while the drop into an easier assignment also works in her favour.

Chassagne has a little to find with Big City Boy on their latest meeting, but she rates as value to record the fifth win of her career with Bella Youngberry taking 2kg off her back.

Seven News Benchmark 65 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Luconi

A much-improved first-up performance suggests Luconi has put his disappointing end to last preparation well behind him.

The six-year-old had finished a tailed-off last-of-11 at this venue in January when the jockey reported concerns with his action, but returned with a strong second at the Gold Coast last month.

Racing over 1400m in a Class 4 handicap, the gelding was beaten less than half a length after settling midfield at $16.

He stayed on strongly on a Soft surface and the switch to a forecast Good 4 should pose no issue, while the rise in distance also looks suitable.

An inside barrier is another positive and Luconi looks well placed to go one better for the Jack Bruce stable.

Great Northern Benchmark 65 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Holy Flash

Consistent form has been a feature of Holy Flash’s recent preparation, with the gelding finishing in the top three at each of his past four starts.

Three of those efforts have come in the city, including a narrow second over this distance at Doomben last time.

Competing on a Soft 6 at BM65 level, he was held up for a run in the straight before missing by a small margin.

The seven-year-old has raced on the speed in recent starts and similar tactics are expected, while his previous record at Ipswich is another positive despite barrier eight being slightly awkward.

Dropping back to provincial level and proven on Good ground, Holy Flash is selected to record the fifth win of his career.

Tempus Two Class 1 Plate Tips (Race 7)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 7 No. 3 Kinki Fish

Purchased cheaply through the Inglis Online Sale in January, Kinki Fish showed signs of ability in two trial appearances before making his debut.

That included a fourth over this distance on a sound surface at Ipswich just under a month ago, before the four-year-old made the perfect start to his racing career eight days later.

Competing over this track-and-trip on a Soft 5, the gelding scored by a length after jumping from an inside alley, with the runner-up subsequently winning next start.

A track downgrade would pose no issue, but Kinki Fish is also expected to handle the forecast Good ground, with a wide barrier the main concern.

The booking of James Orman takes the eye and, with natural improvement likely from start one, Kinki Fish may prove capable of maintaining his unbeaten record.
