Doomben Best Bet - Race 2 No. 7 Moscow Mule

A good debut effort from Moscow Mule saw the gelding finish third at Eagle Farm three weeks ago.

Ridden with restraint in the eight-runner field, he travelled well into the race before being beaten five lengths over 1300m.

After a slow start, the Matthew Dunn-trained galloper made up good ground in the straight in a race that saw the winner finish nearly three lengths clear of the third horse home.

The pick raced on a Soft 7 surface that day, and the quicker underfoot conditions expected here should be no issue, while the form has already been franked by fourth-place finisher Love Rebel, who won back at Eagle Farm a week ago.

Ben Thompson leads the Queensland jockeys' premiership this season and, while Moscow Mule is expected to appreciate a greater stamina test in time, the gelding is taken to break his maiden.

Doomben Value Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Grand Crusader

Three wins this season highlight the consistency of Grand Crusader, whose latest success came at Nanango in early April.

Successful on Good ground that day, the gelding has also won on rain-affected tracks and arrives off a runner-up finish on a Soft 5 surface at Ipswich.

The seven-year-old attempted to make all over 1200m before being overhauled late by a rival who had already produced several strong performances in better company this season.

Barrier three is another positive, with apprentice Chelsea Baker retaining the ride after partnering him last start and likely to adopt similar front-running tactics.

Jay Bellamy's representative should have no issue with the extra distance, having won over further previously, and while this is a tougher assignment, he may prove capable of causing an upset.

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Facundo

Few runners boast a stronger Doomben record than Facundo, who has won three of his five starts at the venue.

His most recent victory came over 1350m on a Good track here in early October, while he also produced several competitive efforts at Eagle Farm during his last preparation.

Jumping from a wide barrier, the gelding scored by three lengths that day, with two fourth-place finishes in stronger company later in the campaign adding further merit to his recent form.

A fourth in a Gold Coast trial at the end of last month should have him ready for this return, while the drop back in trip is not expected to pose a problem.

Jai Williams has enjoyed a productive run of form recently, and Facundo can help the apprentice improve on his 22% strike-rate (11/49) at Doomben this season.
