Best Bet:

Race 2 No. 11 Mercurial Lady

The daughter of So You think performed well in two starts last prep, with the first of those seeing her debut with a third over 1421m at Geelong in early December.

The filly was beaten just over a length, having jumped from a wide barrier when racing from the front on a Good 3 track.

Mercurial Lady went on to finish one place better when beaten less than a length, having raced from mid-division at Sale later that month.

The three-year-old raced over 1400m when encountering a Good 4 surface at Sale, with the winner going on to salute in metro company at Flemington subsequently.

She was spelled following that Sale effort and the filly arrives here on the back of two jump-out wins.

Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman’s representative boasts an inside alley here andshe  looks capable of returning to action with a victory.

Value Bet:

Race 3 No. 10 Shimazy

The six-year-old made her belated debut when beaten three lengths into fourth in an 1100m maiden at Avoca at the end of March.

Racing on a Good 4 track, Shimazy raced from mid-division prior to keeping on nicely to be beaten three lengths under Sheridan Clarke.

Veteran hoop Linda Meech took over in the saddle when she finished one place better at Horsham the following month.

The mare was beaten just under two-and-a-half-lengths, having raced from off the pace- in a twelve runner event on that occasion.

Paul Jones’ mare jumped as favourite whenb crossing the border for a 1400m maiden at Mount Gambier when last in action just under three weeks ago.

A respiratory issue was reported with the mare, so there were clear excuses and her prior form reads well enough for this.

Stats Say:

The Tony & Calvin McEvoy stable have an impressive 34% strike-rate (71/209) with their runners on the synthetic track here.

The pair are set to field runners in both the sixth and eighth races on the card, with two runners expected to lineup for the stable in the first of those races.

Capulet (Harry Coffey) and Wats Normal (Jake Duffy) are their two runners in the sixth race, while apprentice Nadia Daniels rides Tochka in the finale.

Market Mover:

Patrick Kearney’s Obstructionist has been the subject of early support in the fourth race of the day.

The four-year-old placed second on a wet track over 1600m at Swan Hill last time out and he has performed with credit over further in the past.

The New Zealand-bred has the services of Will Gordon here and stepping back up in distance is a plus.

Aftter opening at $13 with Ladbrokes, Obstructionist is now a $9 chance.
