Albury Roughie - Race 2 No. 2 Golden Hips
The gelding showed good form in 2024, registering wins in three of his five starts, including over 2247m at Sale in July.
Jason Warren’s representative was off the track for eight months following a down the field finish at Morphettville Parks last August.
Golden Hips has been racing over shorter distances this prep and while he broke his maiden over 1623m in June last year, his two subsequent wins came over further.
The son of Gold Standard recorded a solid fifth in a 1700m Benchmark 0-64 handicap at Geelong on his penultimate start prior to a seventh-of-twelve at Gawler.
The step up in distance is a positive in this contest, with Golden Hips boasting a 75% strike-rate (3/4) on the forecast heavy going.
Jake Duffy is set to partner the pick for the first time here and the pair may prove up to surprising, with the extra distance here a positive.
Gazebo & Shade Centre Benchmark 66 Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Albury Best Bet - Race 4 No. 6 Miss Cotoletta
The three-year-old recorded two wins from her first four starts, including when winning over 1000m in a Benchmark 66 handicap at Morphettville Parks in August.
Miss Cotoletta was spelled following that effort and while she registered a good fifth at Moonee Valley last prep, her two subsequent efforts were below par.
Notably, both of those outings came in metro events, including when ninth of eleven in an 1100m Benchmark 74 handicap down the straight at Flemington in January.
The youngster had her sights lowered when resuming with a sixth in a 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap at Moe last month.
Jason Warren’s representative was beaten just over three lengths that day and she took a step forward when runner-up over 1200m at Gawler subsequently.
That Gawler effort came in a Benchmark 64 event, with the drop down from metro-level racing a positive here and she's a proven mudlark.
Wellos’ Plumbing Class 1 & Maiden Plate Tips (Race 7)
Albury Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 5 Blazing Sword
The son of Too Darn Hot demonstrated ability when trained by the Annabel & Rob Archibald team, including when fourth at Tamworth in March.
Blazing Sword shown improvement since switching to current trainer Tim Fitzsimmons, registering a win and two placed efforts from three starts this prep.
All three of those outings have come on wet tracks, including when runner-up, beaten less than half-a-length in a 1600m maiden at Swan Hill last month.
He went on to breakthrough for his first win when saluting by nearly one-and-a-half-lengths in a 1500m contest here eight days later.
That course event was held on a Heavy 9 track, with the form boosted by subsequent wins for the second and eighth home that day.
The gelding has trialled well since, while the step back up to 1600m is no issue in this contest.
Kiewa Valley Spring Water Benchmark 58 Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Albury Value Bet - Race 8 No. 1 Rushford
Andrew Dale’s veteran has been running well in the main this year, with four victories in 2025.
Those triumphs include a win over 1600m when contesting a Benchmark 0-58 handicap on soft going at Seymour in April.
The gelding backed that effort up with a solid fourth at Pakenham prior to a second back at Seymour when racing over 1600m in May.
Rushford went on to register the ninth win of his career when taking out a 1618m Benchmark 58 handicap at Echuca on his penultimate outing.
He raced on a Soft 5 surface when seeing off six rivals that day and he was freshened prior to finishing fifth on a Heavy 10 at Wagga earlier this month.
The step up to 1500m is in his favour here and while Rushford has yet to score on heavy ground, he has registered four top three finishes from ten starts.
