Geelong Cats vs Western Bulldogs AFL Round 6 Tips - Wounded Dogs battered again

The upcoming Round 6 AFL 2026 matchup between the Geelong Cats and Western Bulldogs is shaping up to favor the Cats, who are strong at their home ground, GMHBA Stadium. The absence of key Bulldogs players like Ed Richards and Tim English boosts the Cats' prospects even more. Geelong's Bailey Smith is expected to lead the charge, with over 30 disposals contributing significantly to their performance. The Cats' formidable scoring ability at GMHBA Stadium positions them as the favorites to win, continuing their impressive victory streak at the venue.

Geelong Cats vs Western Bulldogs AFL Round 6 Tips

Geelong Cats vs Western Bulldogs, Round 6 2026 - Expert Prediction

The Cats will protect their den at GMHBA Stadium and get the better of the Bulldogs who are licking their sores at the moment.
This match had all of the potential to be a blockbuster but the sting has been taken out of it a little with Ed Richards being ruled out and also no Tim English in the ruck for the Western Bulldogs.

The Hawks showed that controlling the midfield and clearance battle is key to taming the aggressive Bulldogs attack and that will be a little easier with their outs and also the incredible on-ball form of Bailey Smith tips this one heavily in the favour of Geelong on their home field.

GMHBA stadium is arguably the toughest crowd to play at for visiting teams and Geelong are a different beast there. I see this game even getting away from the Bulldogs a little and if the Cats find their range a little better than they have to start the season they will put up their standard 100+ points on the Dogs who will now struggle to hang with the tempo.

Bailey Smith will be on ball with another 30+ disposals as the Cats cover as 11-5-point favourites.

  • Geelong have won their last 6 at GMHBA Stadium.
  • Geelong Cats hold a intercepts advantage (71.2 vs 61.4, +9.8)
  • Geelong have scored 100+ points in 8 of 12 matches at GMHBA Stadium since the beginning of last season.
  • Bailey Smith has had 30+ disposals in his last 4 matches.

Head to Head Stats

Geelong held on after a late surge from the Bulldogs in an absolute belter at GMHBA Stadium in Round 11, kicking slightly away late in the fourth to claim a 127-113 victory.

The pair have traded blows over their last 4 matches, however, Geelong have won 8 of the last 11 since the 2019 season.

4 of the last 5 games have gone over the game total.

Geelong Cats Form Analysis

After a see-sawing start to their match against West Coast the Cats took control mid-way through the second-quarter and kicked five straight goals to end the half to take a 30-point lead into the break which they managed well enough in the second half to walk away from Gather Round with a 122-76 victory.

Mark O’Connor kicked 3-goals but it was the Bailey Smith show once again with his speed proving menacing for the Eagle. Smith finished with 34 disposals and 16 inside 50s which proved the difference.

If there is anything to be critical about Geelong this season it is their goal kicking. The Cats rank fifth in the AFL in shots per inside 50, however, chances are being wasted as a below average team converting just 22.1% of inside 50s into goals despite averaging 33.2 shots per game, the third most in the league.

Western Bulldogs Form Analysis

The Western Bulldogs tasted defeat for the first time this season and in a big way, going down to the high-flying Hawks 15.14 (104) - 8.16 (64). Obviously kicking double the amount of behinds as goals hurt them, however, Hawthorn controlled the ball with 48% - 37% of the possession and 45 more uncontested possessions.

The only team to hold the Western Bulldogs under 70 points last season was also the Hawthorn Hawks. A kink in the attacking armour of the Bulldogs was definitely magnified by the 34-16 difference in clearances with the Dogs unable to control the speed in the midfield.

Is the 40-point loss something for the Dogs to have concerns about, no not really, this loss had more to do with the strength of the Hawks right now, however, it has opened up a path for the rest of the top teams in the league to exploit the Bulldogs through midfield control.
