In the highly anticipated AFL Round 6 clash at Marvel Stadium, the Hawthorn Hawks are expected to build on their impressive form and secure a commanding win over Port Adelaide Power. The Hawks, demonstrating consistency by securing victories against strong teams, are poised to exploit the midfield superiority gap as they continue their journey as early premiership contenders. Port Adelaide, reeling from a poor 2025 season and struggling to find their footing, face a tough challenge. With the Hawks controlling possession effectively, the prediction leans heavily towards a Hawthorn victory.

Hawthorn Hawks vs Port Adelaide Power, Round 6 2026 - Expert Prediction

The Hawks will put the hammer down against Port Adelaide at Marvel on Saturday afternoon, as they continue their surge towards being an early premiership contender.
Hawthorn have shown that they are ready to take the next step going 3 from three against the Bulldogs, Cats and Swans in their last 3 matches and they will not stumble against Port Adelaide who continue to struggle to find their identity after a poor 2025 season.

This game is going to be won in the midfield and there is an enormous gap between the two sides with the Hawks holding a 43.6 disposal advantage while also dominating stoppages where the Port Adelaide fail to assert themselves, even against bottom 10 sides.

The Hawks starved the Bulldogs of possession last weekend and they will have even more control of the ball against Port. This one will likely get ugly and I do expect the Hawks to cover the 41.5 points as the favourite.

When looking at the totals I prefer the game total under over anything else with a strong trend between these two being on the lower side. The Hawks defensive structure was solid against the Bulldogs, however they did give up some scores against GWS and Essendon so the 70-point Power under is a tough call.

With Mabior Chol out with a hamstring issue the Hawks will need scores from their smaller forwards and with the speed of Nick Watson around the stoppages where Port fail to clear danger i like the Wizard for 2+ goals.

  • Hawthorn have won their last 4 matches (3 of 4 were against +.500 teams)
  • Port Adelaide ranks 16th in total clearances compared to Hawthorn who ranks 4th.
  • 7 of the last 9 matches between Hawthorn and Port Adelaide have had less than the 183.5 point game total.
  • Nick Watson averages 2.2 goals per game in 2026.

Head to Head Stats

Both Port Adelaide and Hawthorn took a head to head victory in 2025, winning their home matches by 30+ margins.

3 of the last 4 matches have gone under the game total.

Hawthorn Hawks Form Analysis

The Hawks firmed into third on the premiership odds table with a commanding 104-64 victory over the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval last weekend, complimenting their victory over Geelong the week prior and are now arguably the most in-form team of the competition.

The Hawks have matured in 2026 and it is the up and coming generation that are leading the way with Jai Newcombe putting in another complete performance with 28 disposals, 14 clearances and a goal while Jack Ginnivan had 28 touches and goal.

The Hawks dominated the midfield asserting their authority with 34 clearances to the Bulldogs 16 and winning the Hit-outs 64-17. The Hawks controlled everything with 45 more uncontested possession and 21 extra contested possessions.

Port Adelaide Power Form Analysis

Port are in trouble and something needs to change in a big way in Adelaide after their 81-67 loss to St Kilda to round out Gather Round, never giving themselves a chance to win the match.

It was another match where missed chances hurt the Power, kicking 9.13 in front of goal if you compare the rest of the stats sheet, Port Adelaide were the better team for the majority of the match or at least within a fingers' length. Port won the Marks inside 50 13-4 had more possession, more disposals but their efficiency inside 50 hurt them.

Butters continues to be influential with 30 disposals and is still in the top echelon of midfielders in the league but more consistency is needed from the men around him.
