Musetti has endured a rough start to the season and hasn't won a match since the Australian Open, suffering leg and arm injuries. As a result, he comes into this tournament severely underdone and with a truckload of points to defend over the coming months, Musetti could crash out of the top 10 if he doesn't find his fitness and form fast.

With this in mind, it's an excellent opportunity for Vacherot to make another statement at Masters 1000 level. The Monégasque made headlines when he won the Shanghai Masters last year and he's more or less maintained that sort of form to start the season, coming into this clash on the cusp of the top 20.

Down on confidence with fitness concerns and immense pressure, I don't think I can back Musetti against a quality opponent in front of his home fans. The 24-year-old started 2026 strongly with a final in Hong Kong and quarter-final at the Australian Open, where he led Novak Djokovic by two sets before a leg injury cruelly forced his retirement.

Musetti suffered further setbacks as an arm problem also caused him to withdraw from Miami, meaning a straight sets loss to Marton Fucsovics in Indian Wells remains his only match since January.

The 27-year-old has been quite consistent this season, reaching quarter-finals at Adelaide and Acapulco, along with the third round of the Australian Open and fourth round at Miami.

The Monégasque obviously has immense support in Monte Carlo and the home crowd rallied behind their man as Vacherot came from behind to defeat Juan Manuel Cerundolo in his opening round.

Vacherot finished strongly, dropping just three games in the final two sets for a 5-7 6-2 6-1 victory.
