Alex de Minaur continues his quest for a third consecutive Monte Carlo Masters quarter-final as he faces promising Belgian qualifier Alexander Blockx. The Australian, known for his strong performance on clay, recently outlasted Cameron Norrie and enters as the clear favorite against Blockx, who is inexperienced at this level. De Minaur's record against lower-ranked players suggests a straight-sets victory is on the cards. Despite Blockx's impressive journey through the qualifiers and main draw, de Minaur's consistency signals a likely routine win.

Alex de Minaur vs Alexander Blockx Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Alex de Minaur will be aiming to make the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-finals for the third year running when he comes up against qualifier Alexander Blockx on Thursday.

De Minaur has improved his game considerably on clay over the last couple of years and the Aussie is on course for another last-eight appearance in Monte Carlo. The World No. 6 outlasted Cameron Norrie - who has always been a tough matchup for him - in three sets in his opening match and he's received a favourable draw here in the R16.

Blockx is certainly a player on the rise and I wouldn't be surprised to see him crack the top 50 later this year. However, the 20-year-old remains very inexperienced at this level and hadn't defeated a top 50 player before this tournament. It's been an excellent run from qualifying for the young Belgian, but it most likely ends here.

De Minaur has an incredible record of winning in straight sets when he prevails against players ranked outside the top 90, so I'm backing the Aussie to get this done in relatively routine fashion.
  • De Minaur's last 35 wins over players ranked 90 or lower have been in straight sets dating back to 2019
  • Blockx was 0-3 vs top 50 players before this tournament
  • De Minaur is 2-0 in Monte Carlo R16 matches
  • De Minaur hasn't lost to a player outside the top 90 on clay in the last three years
  • De Minaur is 18-3 in his last 21 matches vs players ranked outside the top 20 on clay (three defeats vs Nadal, Bublik & Fils)

De Minaur vs Blockx Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Alex de Minaur Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 13-5
  • ATP Monte Carlo Record: 9-5
  • Current Ranking: No. 6
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 6 (2024)

De Minaur made another strong start to the season, highlighted by a run to the Australian Open quarter-finals and his 11th career title in Rotterdam.

Since then, results have tapered off, although he has managed to hold onto a career-high ranking of No. 6.

That position is currently under pressure in Monte Carlo, where he has significant points to defend following last year’s semi-final run, which ended in a deciding tiebreak against Lorenzo Musetti.

Recent form was a concern. De Minaur exited early in both Acapulco and Miami, losing to Patrick Kypson and Stefanos Tsitsipas respectively, while also falling in straight sets to Cameron Norrie in the Round of 32 at Indian Wells.

De Minaur managed to avenge that defeat to Norrie in his Monte Carlo opener, but it was another tough battle, with the Aussie turning the tables in a 7-6(5) 2-6 6-2 victory.

Alexander Blockx Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 3-1
  • ATP Monte Carlo Record: 2-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 91
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 88 (March 2026)

After winning his maiden tour-level match at the Cincinnati Masters last year, Blockx has put in the hard yards at Challenger level to break into the world's top 100 - and he looks set for a long stay.

Blockx started the year by winning the strong Canberra Challenger and making the Australian Open main draw, which gave him the springboard to reach the top 100.

Now, the 20-year-old is aiming even higher. Blockx has already won four matches in Monte Carlo to reach the R16 on debut, coming from qualifying after beating Francesco Maestrelli and Damir Dzumhur in straight sets.

The Belgian has continued his great form in the main draw, upsetting Denis Shapovalov 6-4 4-6 6-3 in the opening round before a sensational 6-3 6-3 dispatch of 10th seed Flavio Cobolli for his maiden top 20 scalp.
